^^ Exactly.

To compare the toppling of this statue to the fall of the Berlin Wall is moronic. It's incredible, though, that this single image will be etched in the memories of far more people than - say - the large amounts of civilian deaths or the anarchy following the toppling that the US admit they are powerless to prevent.... but then I suppose that's the power of television isn't it....

BINGO

confirms what I was suspecting all along.

Ok, there is BIG time propaganda here in the US. I just saw a program showing how here in the United States only the nicest things there has been done on the war. Such as announcing all the victories the US has done and accomplished, while in the rest of the world they show the REALITY of WAR such as the casualties, the dead people, and even the coalition soldiers dead. I don't think it's fair to show only the things accomplished, but the casualties and reality, so people realize what this is really about, I hear kids so happily saying we beat their asses and stuff, thinking that it was just clean and easy, but the reality of it is a totally different image, the image of a WAR. I found it so interesting though how the US channels show something totally different then what the rest of the world sees.

So what about reports from Al-Jazeera themselves about Iraqis celebrating, throwing flowers, and prasiing the US troops as they rolled into Baghdad? Are they manipulating the media as well? You could tell from their article that there was WIDESPREAD jubilation as opposed to isolated "fixed" incidents as you so imply.

No one ever remembers the lessons of the past. Sure the punters are happy to get rid of the most brutal despicable regime in the Middle East. For Now.

A regime I should point out for many years America was more than comfortable supporting when it was carrying out many of its brutal massacres.

In the early 1980's Israel invaded Lebanon to drive out the Palestinians and set up a puppet regime in Lebanon loyal to Israel.

When Israel invaded the Shia of the south greeted them with wild enthusiasm because the Shia hated the palestinians who were on the whole brutal and violent and upset their traditional way of life.

The Shia were happy to get rid of the PLO but it didnt last. It ended up in a brutal vicious war in the South of Lebanon which the Shia won. The Shia drove out the US, France and Israel. They beat Israel, the invincible army left Lebanon with its tail between its legs.

The best thing america could do is pull all its troops out of Iraq immediately and hand over to the UN. But in its arrogance and naievety it wont. America will think it can create a state loyal to the US. The Iraqi National Congress. What a joke.

What happened in Lebanon will happen to the United States. We shall see how smug all the pro-war advocates when arab 'terrorists' strike at american interests in Iraq.

Im saying that the US channels here show just about the nicest part, while in other parts, including Al-jazeera show more of the reality of the war, people enjoying is part of the news, but it's not all there is.

That was exactly why Israel invaded Lebanon. The PLO were launching attacks on Israel from Lebanese territory. The Israelis wanted to smash the PLO in Lebanon, which they did. The Israelis also wanted to smash the Syrians who at the time had the most control over Lebanon. Which they also did.

To that effect the Israeli government provided military and political support to the Christian faction of the Lebanese (the Phalange) with the intent of getting them into government and then obtaining a peace treaty in favour of Israel.

If that wasnt why the Israelis invaded Lebanon then you tell me why they did it then.
