They play the lowest ranked team. It's not like NCAA. They re-seed the teams. So if Boston(7) wins then they play Boston. If NJ(2) wins Ottawa(1) will play the winner of the Toronto(5) Philly(4) series. Assuming that Washington(6) doesn't beat Tampa Bay(3)

In non-related news. Canned peaches are ing incredible. They don't have to be Delmonte either. No-name brand is working wonders for me as we speak.

This game was soooo much more then a home opener. This game was supposed to be a statement game for the Sens. President's trophy and home ice through out the playoffs. This was the game where they were supposed to strike fear in their opponent, show why they were the best team in the regular season, and send a message to the entire NHL that they mean business. The team will be politically correct in their interviews (ie. Don't get to high with the highs or to low with the lows) but anyone that really knows the game knows that this loss has much greater implications than simply going down 1 game in the series.

Disclaimer: I know that guys like Chris Neil won't let them come up with such a gutless effort next game and Ottawa will bounce back to win the series. But I am definitely correct in calling them heartless ATM.

heh jeez well they lost ya.. but that doesnt necessarily mean it was because of a lack of heart. Most people here said it was because of nerves and pressure and definitely not a lack of effort. They skated hard and played with alot of emotion, but their passing was terrible and their game was off. Edmonton has lost before... toronto lost the first game against ottawa last year 5-1.Remember what happened to toronto last year against the islanders? That was supposed to be a gimme series too. Does that mean they have no heart either? Detroit lost the first two games against Vancouver last year in the opening seriesCome on man they have a very different team this year. Anybody who has followed the local ottawa media this year knows they are hungry.
Thats said they could very easily loose the next 3 games. I just think it would probably be more a lack of experience than heart.

thats really the only implication. It was just one ing game. Even that ottawa-hater Don Cherry said it was.

I DESPISE the Sens, but trying to be unbiased, yes they have a great young team and have potential to do pretty well this postseason. But, again I feel as if they don't have enough playoff experience to make it to the stanley cup finals, or even the conference finals for that matter. The Sens are sure as hell not going to win the cup this year, but, damn just watch out for them in 2 to 3 years, with Martin's coaching and their young team they could clean up in years to come.

Oh, and to make this post somewhat Toronto-related: GO LEAFS GO muahahahhahaha
sohaness
^ i dunno man...under martin, the senators seem to play really well in the regular season, but they cant do it in the playoffs for some reason. also, that 3-0 win by the isles last night cant be good for the sens' confidence!

i think if they get knocked out in the first round again, they will make some changes (primarily in coaching)...i mean, how many times can you have a stellar regular season, and then bow out in rounds 1 or 2 of the playoffs. i dont think the sens fans will be too happy.

ps. go leafs go

And what the happened to the oilers? God what a terrible two days for Canadian teams. Leafs played terrible too. Well as much as I hate to admit it they will come out with a much better game on home ice. Lets hope so for their sake cause they arnt going to win if they keep getting outshot 70-30

No need to panic (except sens fans)... remember last season when the nucks led 2-0 in the series, and the wings won 4 straight?? Anything could happen....
