Dear TA's..

I will be heading down to Cancun Mexico, From April 26th-May 3rd... Any suggestion where i could go for some good Trance club/Rave???? Oh i'm staying at Oasis Playa Cancun if that helps.....

Don't trust the security guard in the hotel. They'll jack you. If they knock on your door talking about weed or like that just pretend you don't understand and shut the door.

Bora18t, (nice ride. I've got a GTI18t :tongue2 )

Anyhow. Yeah, I've been to Cancun a few times. Chose Mazatlan this year instead for a change.

Here's the problem: you're going down in at the END of high season. There will very likely not be any major DJ's down at the end of April as that's High School Break (READ: No Money). I can say for sure that there are none planned at LaBoom while you're there cause their website doesn't have anyone listed. Unfortunately, that is the most likely spot for an international DJ to come as they have an active promo team (which coincidentally works with Avalon in Boston during Spring Break).

I'll give you the run down, but you'll likely not have any problems finding where the people are going. The majority of clubs are located in a one block area of the main strip. The main clubs (IMO) in Cancun are: Coco Bongo, Dady'o Complex (Consisting of Dady'o's, Dady Rock, Baby Dady), LaBoom Complex(LaBoom Club & Tequila Boom), Christine Club, Bulldogs, and to a much lesser extent Senor Frog's, Pat O'Briens, and Fat Tuesdays.

The Clubs that will play electronic music as the majority or all of the music are LaBoom, Dady'o's, and Christine.

  • Coco Bongo - Coco Bongo music runs all over the map. You'll get Hip-hop, mixed with electronic, mixed with their show, mixed with rock. However it is a massive club with a huge sound-system and is worth seeing once. The Mask (From the movie) show is interesting.

  • Dady Rock - Dady Rock obviously plays rock.
  • Baby Dady - Baby Dady is the Hip-hop room.
Neither of which is worth noting.
  • Dady'o's - This one is worth mentioning. I love this club. Set up like a big round cave. A bit cramped at times, but good tunes and a bit of all the good stuff. Another excellent ice cannon. I would give this one my stamp of approval.

  • LaBoom - The venerable grand-daddy of the clubs. Unfortunately the next big DJ is Anthony Pappa after you're gone. It's a large, well air-conditioned room, huge sound-system, excellent Ice Cannon. Purely electronic music spun by a great guy named DJ Benji. Not completely avant-garde in terms of his tracks, but mostly this year at least. Absolutely the biggest heads in Cancun for bartenders. You'll see....you'll see. Home of the famed Phone Booth:

and where PVD plays when he's there:

  • Tequila Boom - Hip hop room beside LaBoom. Small, but some crazy goes down here.

  • Christine Club - Amphitheatre club so it's in a circle with descending levels to dancefloor. Music starts with some top 40 and latin early in the evening, but pure tech/trance near the end. THE, I repeat, THE best ice cannon in Cancun. Don't go here on a weekend if you're looking to meet people though. Very popular with the locals. I wish I had some pics of here. Found at Krystal resort.

  • Bulldogs - I wish I could remember what this club used to be named. It was ok then. Now it is straight rock and straight .
The only redeeming quality here is the hot tub which they only allow girls into.

  • Senor Frogs - Not as much of a 'true' nightclub as it is a bar with a dancefloor. Lots of hip-hop and top 40. Too bad they closed the waterslide that leads into the lagoon. Great place to 'hook-up', but not for music. Lots of dancing on the stage area.

  • Pat O'Briens - Home of the Mardi Gras parties 5 years running. Hip-hop and top 40 mostly (although I once saw Johnny Vicious here).

Sorry to the dial-up'ers. Ok, not really, let's join the 21st century:p.

Sorry about the length but I have many just way too many memories of Cancun..... :eyespop:

thanks you ninjapimp for the indepth review... I would think that Laboom is more for me... Wouldn't goto the other one's coz i'm not interested in rock or latino's music... You got a GTI1.8T anything done on the car and are you on the Vortex????

i'll add something else having been to cancun 12 times over the years(it's 2.5 hrs from dallas and we get $99 roundtrip specials all the time). I prefer Dady-O's in the off season. the big nights for electronic music are sun and thurs. Laboom is going to be better on wed and fri in the off season although if you chose the all-u-can-drink plan you must get your drinks on the tequila boom side. avoid coco bongo like the plague- there is nowhere to dance. senor frog's et al are tourist traps. the oasis complex up the street from yours has an awesome foam party on thurs nights although the music runs all over the map. if you've never been to a foam party, go for the experience and wear a hat to keep the bubbles out of your eyes since the foam will be over your head in the middle of the dancefloor. also, hang out at the main oasis complex- although not as nice as playa, it has 1500 rooms so there are always kindred spirits when i break out my music. to answer pimp's ?, bulldog is located where christine's use to be in the krystal complex. it should have stayed there since the locale made it a much better club than it is today.
dady-o's is every bit the club that guvermint is in toronto. i met a girl from toronto in jan at the oasis and just returned from canada 2 weeks ago so i feel i can compare. both places have much better scenes than dallas which is why i travel so much. cheers! -max-:tongue3

Damn it, that's right! I was thinking the Christine's in Puerto Vallarta was still around. I was so mad when I first went into Bulldogs after having been there while it was Christines....

And, I totally agree with you about Dady'o's. My post may have sounded like I liked LaBoom the most, but to dispel that: My favourite club is Dady'o's too!
