why should 'sport' be limited to games that require insane amounts of strength? I think reflexes and intelligence matter just as much as someones strength.
Golf is a sport
Baseball is a sport
Chess is a sport

ignorance is awesome. its a hell of a lot more physically demanding than golf. not to mention all of the mental strength a top line driver needs. and lets not forget about the schedual that they are under. its not just a race every couple of weeks... testing....PR apearances everything... that was just pure arrogance and dim wittedness on your part to say such a thing. and for your information, i golf, a lot, and love the game. but man...to say something like that without knowing what you are talking about... |

Why isn't car racing a sport? Because it's the mechanical engine that wins the races, not the driver (unless he does something really stupid that knocks his car out of commission). Look at who wins the F1 standings every year....that arrogant Michael Schumacher. Why? Because he drives Ferrari. Jacques Villeneuve is just as "skilled" a driver as Schumacher, but his BAR engine is far inferior...hence, he loses races because of that. Sorry man...but it's just not a sport when you're not in control over how you perform. And a sport does not involve machines either.
Oh, and look at the best golfers...they aren't big fat slobs. Tiger, Ernie, Mike Weir, Davis Love, David Duval and even Phil Mickelson are all guys in very good physical condition. When you go out to the golf course on a Sunday, you might see a few tubbies duffing away out there while sucking back some Blues. But that doesn't mean they're good at it. Like any sport, you have to be on top physically and mentally and possess an amazing amount of athletic skill to be the best (or even just good). Golf is no exception.

| Who really gives a what is or isnt a sport!?!? Just because you dont like something doesnt mean its not a sport. I dont like curling, but its a sport. I dont like baseball, but its a sport. Hell, even 85 year old geezers playing lawn bowling in the park is a sport. So lets get back to the original topic.....GO MIKEY GO!!!! I think its great hes in contention, and it indeed would be priceless to see Tiger Woods hand over the green jacket to a worthy canadian like Weir. |
