Get the Canon PowerShot Elph. This thing is the size of a pack of cigarettes, exactly. I just keep it in my pocket. It's very small and takes awesome pictures.

Great input everyone! I think I'm going to make a trip to best buy this weekend to play around. Another great site w/ reviews is www.dcresource.com for those who are also looking.

Keep the info coming !

I wanna buy coolpix 5700, but it's pretty espensive! Donno if you are willing to spend that much on a digi cam

PS. I doubt you will find any useful opinions here simply because not alot of people know alot about photography/cameras, so I suggest you check out www.dpreview.com

Good point.
You want a camera where you can overide it's PHD automatic mode functions. I'd want something with shutter/aperture priority, as well as a metered manual mode.

You'd be looking @ a higher price range of camera then... Yes coolpix 5700 is cool. It would be my next choice after a canon DSLR...:D

If youre going to be taking indoor pics youll want to make sure to get a digicam with the equivalent of 400 speed film. I dont know the exact term offhand but you get the idea. The only bad thing I heard about the elph cameras was that they didnt have a very bright flash. But that would be attributed to the small size. You may have to make some sacrifices I guess.

But before you decide to buy something for sure, go online and check out prices! I was looking at Best Buy and they sold a camera for $399 and I saw it online for only $329. It pays to shop around. Go to a website that shows you the price of the camera that many different online retailers sell it for. You would be amazed between the differences of prices that different people charge. :)

OH that's another good point I forgot. Yes you want a cam with higher ISO settings. The higher the better for dimly lit party pics. I would prefer one with at least an ISO1600 setting (for use without flash).
Remember each doubling of the ISO number means you can take the same pic using half the light of a lower ISO number and vice versa. :toothless

make sure to get a camera that has the following

-abilty to set the apperture to 2.8!!!!!!!you need a big apperture to get the proper exposure in a club setting! espcially since you wont have a tripod!

-s-flash (much much better than normal flash....for isntance, a dancer will come out clear, but the background will still have crazy lighting effects)

theres an olympus that is really good and small....stay away from super entry level cameras such as the nikon 2500!

^^^That depends on the lens as well though. Yes, you want to be able to set shutter speed and aperture manually. My slowest lens is f/2.8. I also have ones that are f/2, and f/1.8. That's another good point. Find a camera with the fastest lens you can afford. Smaller f/ numbers = faster lens (can let in more light). Zoom lenses tend to be slower though than fixed though. : \

Not sure what this is...some kind of olympus feature?

Great question! Well like I said, I already have a really good digital camera now, its a Nikon Coolpix with tons of features but very bulky.

So for this camera I'd spend from $150 - $250, maybe $300 if it was worth it. I feel like for what I want, that is pleanty of money. Uncle Sam was nice in giving me a rebate this year so I am going to treat myself to a little gift of a new CDJ 800 or 1000 and a digital camera :)

I just noticed the Canon A300 just came out, that thing looks pretty sweet and its 3.2 MP! But it has some enhanced low-light stuff and anti red eye which is nice. The logitech one is cool but w/o a flash it would be almost pointless in a club setting.

check out the canon powershot 230 - 3.2mp and its very small, the size of my cell phone..

great for clubs, etc..

i am a very happy owner of a canon elph s330. for only $320 it has a lot of manual features and takes great quality pics, IMHO, especially in the dark. the flash is fine, although the lighting is sometimes a tad messed up (nothing photoshop's auto-color can't fix though). i haven't tried printing the photos yet, but i might soon.
