think of it as a good thing,
you can rediscover songs, and now you won't take your music for granted.

also, don't give up just yet! get a nerdy friend to try and recover old files, at least the list of your old files. Have had same thing happen to me.

My advice is to go to a data-recovery specialist, especially since you had half of your thesis on there. I don't know about you, but I'm lazy as , and if that happened to me I wouldn't want to re-write that....or re-download my mp3s:D

give us the detaisl on how the event occured. You never know, the data might be recoverable.

Happened to me before. I downloaded EasyRecovery Professional and get everything back. Give it a shot.

I find this to be so true. Everytime I need to reformat my computer, It gives me a chance to find some new sets to fill my drive with. It can be hard to discover new DJ's when you're always fixed on the same names you've always liked... Loosing all your files is a good excuse to update your collection...

if the hd is actually broken you can try two things...

slam it on the ground a couple of times... some times the metal plate can get stuck... this might give you enough time to get your files back....

stick your hard drive in the freezer... yea i know its sounds strange but the cold will shrink the metal plates and hopefully you will have enough time to get that report back b4 it heats up again.
