I know Alex Rodriguez makes $26 million a year, making him the highest paid baseball player. But, that puts him nowhere near soccer (sorry, i'm from the US :toothless ) players. I read in a previous thread that David Beckham makes 100,000 pounds a week. i used a currency converter to figure that out and it works out to $82 million a year. so i was just wondering, are there any higher paid athletes than him? and who are the highest paid stars in each sport?

arod is probably the highest paid athlete in the world b/c nobody pays their pplayers like the US teams to,... the US is just too big in marketing and in money,... soccer mght be more popular but i dont think they touch our players when it comes to money,...

i could be incorrect so dont chew me up and spit me out if i am, but thats what im pretty sure about

i think some soccer players do get paid more than AROD each year. i mean look up there, beckham's salary is already WAY ahead of AROD if those figures are true and if beckham is paid 100,000 GBP for the weeks that he isn't playing due to injury or offseason.

there is no way beckham gets 82 million a year.

what you must also remember is of that one hundred thousand pounds nearly 45% of it is taken of in tax. so his real wage is only about 55.000 pounds.

ALvaro recoba who plays for inter was on £120,000 a week a few years back.

God knows what ronaldo and zidane are raking in a week.

well half of 82 million a year is still a whole lot more than what alex rodrigiuez is making in the states at 25 million per year and he also have to pay taxes on it. beckham is defintely way up there in salary. how much are tickets to a soccer match anyway? how can owners afford to pay so much to 1 player alone? must be the tv deals and sponsers.

well, you gotta remember, manchester united is the most expensive franchise in the world. i think i heard somewhere that they are worth, when figuring in everything, approx 1.3 billion. the New York Yankees are worth somewhere around 900 million. sooo... i wouldn't doubt if Beckham was making that much. and thats what im trying to figure out. do the real madrid stars make more than beckham? and if so how much? cause i love to throw these figures out when people are talking about ARODs salary. where are all the UKTAs at? us americans have no idea how much these players make.

A few years ago i believe Michael Jordan got about $40 million a year when he played for the Bulls. And that's without commercials and other sponsoring stuff!! You can easily double his income when you include that!!
