haha... the bandwidth use for them isn't really all that bad as long as they have gzip compression on... I'd say tops 20 gigs a day if they don't have many image attachments/galleries... but the problem in running a forum that size is the cost of multiple servers, the bandwidth isn't much of an issue in comparison |

20 gigs a day is a huge understatement. The webstats for the main site at somethingwful.com from March showed that 2.3 terabytes had been transferred just that month which is a lot more then 20 gigs a day, and I believe he said that the forums transfer much more data then the main site. He is a great guy and has had a lot of money problems in the past keeping the site running due to the expenses. As a result it now costs $10 to join. Nonetheless, I suggest some of you guys check it out, as the $10 will be more then paid for very quickly.
Swamper do you have any web stats for the site that we could see? I'm really interested to know what the load on this site is like. Have you had any problems with the vbcode due to high server loads and stuff like that? I know that searching uses a ton of computer cycles. |

first of all, welcome to 3 nights ago when all this was settled. i think you're the one that needs to get over it.
if you want to call someone an for stating their opinion by saying that this thread wasn't all that exciting, so be it. i just think its funny AND ignorant when people call each other names on the boards. you don't know me, if you don't like my posts, deal. its called life.
i'm sure fastmp3 is so proud to have such a faithful friend as yourself to stand by him, but everyone is attacking me for saying my comment was outlandish and harsh when all i said was that it was a "useless thread." i guess people failed to see how taha (a moderator, mind you) jumped on my character and started throwing out the names.
everyone says "if you dont like this thread, dont post in it", well thats the biggest bunch of bs i've ever heard. i didnt even think what i said was mean or rude, it was just a joke ffs.
so everyone can continue calling me an or mean or whatever else you like, but that doesnt validate taha reacting as how he did. i'm sorry if my two words caused such an uproar, but if it did, then maybe no one on here really does have a life. |
