SARS in Toronto is OVAH!!

The WHO has finally realised how ridiculous it has been and has lifted the SARS Travel Warning for Toronto. Unfortunately it is too late for the financial repercussions for this city. There was never a crisis here to begin with. There were 180 “probable” cases in a metropolitan area of 6 million. Most of these (and eventually all of them) were contained. The 20 people who have died from the disease were either elderly or had other complications or both. These statistics are not much different than for the common flu! Unlike China, we never hid the facts, never were in self denial, and took immediate steps to contain the virus which is why Torontonians were so insulted last Wednesday by the WHO warning. It has been 20 days since the last person in Toronto was infected so the outbreak here is officially over.
It’s unfortunate how the media has blown SARS way out of proportion. I have heard that some news organizations spent a whole day looking for 1 person in public with a mask on so they could portray them as being the norm in Toronto. I live in Toronto and I have yet to see someone wearing a mask and if I did I’d have a good laugh at their expense! Tonight, 55,000 people will fill the Skydome to take in a Blue Jays baseball game, but also mainly to show the world that their paranoia is unfounded. Toronto has never been safer to visit and I invite everyone to come see our wonderful, world class city! |

I was in China town yesterday, and i did not see one person there with a mask on. I then went to Queen street and Eaton center an not one individual ws wearing a mask. I even went out to Guvernment for Lucien Foort this past Saturday and it was well filled.
And the reasons why they dont reveal the people who have died fom Sars here is becuase they dont want further death threats against the oriental community to take place.
For s sake, the media is going a little too crazy. Even my mom asked me to by hand sanitizer... the ones that dont require water (i.e Purell) and they were sold out! LOL
In the states, magazine covers are plastered with SARS headlines even though there is yet a death to occure related to this virus. Fear instilling media will always a society up. |

| Notice how CNN and the like are hardly reporting the lifting of the advisory? If any good comes out of this it will be that people will realise that the media is full of and is only out to scare people to sell papers. |

| The only good thing about this SARS is that Kelly Clarkson and all the other "made for tv" pop stars have cancelled their concerts here. Who needs em? Let them sing off key elsewhere! |

oh, so naive..
Try this: they just hid the facts so that WHO would lift the advisory on travel to Toronto for sake of tourism not being hurt by it.
edit: further being hurt by it :) |
