SARS in Toronto is OVAH!! (pg. 2)

look at the big picture, 6 mil in your city, 6 bil in the world.

the fact that your economy suffers is a small price to pay for having tonnes of people there.
SARS has been mostly contained in TO.

Why risk a potential larger outbreak by not having a travel advisory? IT WAS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. Right now, I think the ppl of TO(or @ least those complaining) are being selfish. I dont want to go there, and im in good health, not sick or old or have respiratory disease. I know im not going to die from it, but I might get sick, and why would I want that?

Personally, Im more worried about West nile and the bird sized mosquitos in Winnipeg this summer.

BUt I do believe that the travel advisory was needed, and I agree 100% w/ the WHO.

This is easy for you to say when you don't live here. I think you should take the word of people who live here who don't seem to worry. Also, as much as the rest of Canada is in denial, the fact is that if Toronto's economy suffers, all of Canada does. So this is everyone's problem, even those in Calgary!

J Spot, I'm sorry to say this but you are completely full of . It kind of annoys me to see this post especially after the one you posted in the TO forum.

Where do you get your information from? Which newspaper? Have you done ANY research whatsoever on this?
Edit: By the way, Toronto has 2.5 million people, which shows how much you've researched this...

Scientists and doctors in Toronto have been working their asses off to control the spread, treat infected people, and to supply everyone with accurate information about the virus. The WHO then completely ignores that and likens us to CHINA, based on absolutely zero scientific fact! You think it was appropriate... why? For no reason other than utter paranoia? You think the WHO did the right thing because YOU personally would not come here?

How dare you call this city or anyone in it "selfish." Hey I know, Alberta has some suspect cases too, so why doncha go hang out in Canmore for the rest of the summer, where there's absolutely no chance of picking it up?

 please, give us a break. I don't know what your grudge is against Toronto, but don't feed off of ignorance and paranoia.

Actually Toronto city proper has about 2.5 million but the GTA has close to 6 million. However, Diginut, you are correct. It's time for the rest of Canada to step up and help us out just like we have whenever they were in need.

heres why, Vancouver got Sars and contained it..yes they got a lucky break on it, but they did.
TO didnt.

maybe we should firebomb the entire city to eradicate it. ;)
note the bitter sarcasm.

And thanks to my Alberta Advantage, I really dont get affected by your downturn in economy at all.

Its the luck of the draw. If it happened in MTL, I would say the same thing. Its a big city, with lots of people coming and going everyday.

And as much as scientists work their ass off, they havent found a way to stop it yet. There is no cure for SARS, and people are(were)breaking their volountary quarantine.

I liken it to chopping off your thumb in order to save your hand.
your thumb is important, but really, the whole hand is alot more important.

Vancouver contained it because they had a case study to go by which was Toronto! Toronto was the first city in Canada affected which is why it was not contained here right away. However, it was well under control long before WHO issued the advisory which is why we think the WHO's decision was purely political.

oh, so naive..
Try this: they just hid the facts so that WHO would lift the advisory on travel to Toronto for sake of tourism not being hurt by it.

edit: further being hurt by it :)

haha, thats pushing it just a bit...

The WHO tipped of vancouver first, and forgot about toronto, thats why we got screwed. SARS came from China to toronto, yet there are MUCH more travellings coming in and going to china FROM vancouver, yet they have it under control
Damn wanker WHO pissheads :whip: :whip:
give stupid warnings when it was their fault to begin with
emono
i just got sent back to my hometown from shanghai, china due to paranoia..

and there were only two confirmed cases of the syndrome in the city.
and pvd cancelled his stop there, for the same reasons.

SARS is beginning to piss me.

I read today that the virus which is suspected to cause SARS has been found in individuals who aren't even showing symptoms. Also, in Hong Kong, there have been relapsing cases of the disease. Perhaps SARS in T-dot is not quite ovah yet.

Please spare us your ignorant posts, J. Do some friggin' research before you post every random idea that's floating around in your mashed head. Toronto did contain it, that was the whole point of this thread and the reason why the WHO rescinded their advisory. And as Mack said, it was the WHO's own fault (not to mention the Chinese government) that Toronto had more trouble containing it than Vancouver. How much clearer can we make this to you? You aren't from Toronto, you never come to Toronto, and you have absolutely no medical or sociological expertise in this area, so stop posting in this thread, your input is not necessary.

Zarathustra, carriers are a well-known phenomena but there was never any community spread. If there were carriers spreading it around, the number of reported cases would still be going up. I'm not overly worried.

I'm glad since I'll be going this weekend! :D
