catcher of the rye is indeed quality.
i like jordan's style better than tolkien's. maybe it's because robert's is more modern? i dunno...but i agree that tolkien is brilliant and always will be regarded as one of the legends and fathers of today's fantasy. |

phaze your about to hit 400!!! hehe=) .. how bout, the trance addict bookworm? ;) ... haha, ya right...how lame..
and ive read all the dragonlance novels upto the 5th age..everything after sux!! (chronicles ing ruled!!):p |
whats lame?
yeah it was slim pickings after that. TSR was running out of creative juice. in fact margaret weis and tracy hickman did a spoofy run off Dragonlances famous Fizban in Death gate cycle. That was cheesy. his name in those series was nabzif or something. |

umm, you must be on crack man.. jordan is good, but in time , youll begin to see that he is really nothign compared to the master of fantasy, tolkien. tolkien started it all, and i doubt therell ever be anybody like him again.. he made up over 7 differen languages, think of that, i dont see robert jordan making up 'trolloc' or 'forsaken' languages .. no comparison..and ive read that set like a million times.. like a year ago i stoped reading them and whent on to other books.
even though this book is out of hte fantasy category, Catcher in the Rye hsa to be one of my favorite books..that book is like.. so ing awesome.
well tiem for hw, im outa here.. peace. |
there wasn't that much great known fantasy writers in the early 1900s?? it was a different time and place. its impossible to compare to the talent today.
Whats odd of bout JRR's series was I ended up reading it from the end to the front: hobbit, lord of the rings series, and then silmarillion.. unfortunate mistake, cuz i knew the entire history of sauron and his demise.
there were other books he never finished that his son tried to do too. |

I used to read fantasy novels when i was young (like 12), and i don't remember much of them. I read Tolkiens LOTR trilogy and the hobbit, and also some i robert jordans series.
Now a days i don't get that much time to read, but when i do, i love to read stuff from thomas harris (the red dragon, silence of the lambs and hannibal, they're SO much better than the movies:)), dean koontz and stephen king. I guess i love crime and supenatural stories:D Anyone else that like these genres?
Peace |
Michael Crihton's books are excellent too. |

crack? LOL.. look who's talking.. you're comparing Tom Clancy to JRR Tolkien.. not even in the same genre.
im sure you heard of Rainbow Six? turned it into a popluar game and subsequent series. Pretty good, i'd say for Tom's works, not to mention movies of his books were also made.
JRR's was MiddleEarth RPG, and just recently the movie production of LOTR.
i've read both authors, i just find both has their own appeal, i just like jordan's a little better thats all. |

Expand your mind guys.
I only really read non-fiction stuff at the moment. Currently simultaneously reading Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time and Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason. Other books that I've read recently (i.e past 6 months):
Friedrich Nietzsche Twilight of the Idols/The Anti-Christ
Albert Camus The Outsider
Albert Camus The Fall
Albert Camus The Plague (though I couldn't really get into this one)
Jean-Paul Satre Nausea (great book!)
Arthur Schopenhauer Essays and Aphorisms
And that's about it I think..... |
