Cell Phone Usage?

Hey everyone...
I have been thinking more and more how people use and abuse cell phone usage. I have observed in the past how my friends often times act differently on a cell phone depending on who is around them, or what kind of situation they may be in. Don't get me wrong, this can also happen on a normal house phone, but I just see this more and more with cell phones being used everywhere...at work, school, walking in the mall...driving..etc. I have noticed that sometimes when a friend is on a cell phone, everyone in the room will stop talking, pretend like they are watching tv or listening to music, but instead listen to the conversation word for word.
What do you all think, have you noticed this same thing? What is even more interesting I think is how people ease drop on cell phone conversations...it is sometimes like intercepting that note in class and being able to get some info and then passing it along without being noticed. When one of my friends is on his/her phone I can always catch at least one other person around him/her that is listening to the conversation, but at the same time trying to make it look like they aren't.
Anyone else notice this?
And don't even get me going on call waiting...that is the most evil and rude innovation ever produced!

that's the reason why i don't like to use my cell phone in public...
i try to avoid it at all costs... like when i'm riding the train, there's no other sounds except a few people talking, but everyone else has nothing to listen to, so they listen to my conversation
i usually wait to make a call, unless it's important that i call at that very instant |

first of all why da wud u buy a stupid cell if u wanna just chat over da phone? even in da classroom...yez i see dat many times and with me im watever...ing cells r 4 business not 4 showing off...business ppl, drug-dealers and so on....4 me cell, i wud only use it in case of emergency, going 2 a cottage or camping stuff like dat...so ing annoing seeing ppl in malls, skools, basically there everywhere now

I agree that cell phone usage is way out of whack these days...too many people are too worried about whats going on on the phone than whats going on around them. For example, right around where i live, a few weeks ago the cutest 4 yr. old girl and her dad were killed cause he was on his cell. They were driving down the road and came to a railway crossing with the guard down for a train...he was too busy chatting that he didn't see it until it was too late. He slammed on the breaks and slid right into the train doing about 80 km/h killing them both. People need to wake the up and pay attention to whats going on around them.... cell phones.

| Back here they made a law for callin' when you're drivin',basic idea DON'T hehe so if you do ,you're livin' outside the law hehe lol.Well yes people are really using it for really nothin',usually they begin their conversation,with "where are you?" or "what are you doin'?",and usually they just have a really pointless conversation,even when they see each other in the next five seconds,ah well....:) |

| Cell phones definetely get abused. I too hate walking in the mall and seeing 14 yr olds on the phone with god only knows who...like is it that important you need to call your lil friends right then! I have a cell and its mostly for emergencies...its never on...people leave messages and I get them like a week or two afterwards. I think when people use their cells at clubs its the funniest thing....they are standing there with one hand holding the phone and the other hand over the other ear to try and block out sound and every other word that comes out of their mouth is "what?"...lol And please do they really think that other people think they are so important that they need to make a call from a club! I used to laugh at peeps like that at Twilo. lol...ok that's my rant for the week!! ;) |

i leave my phone on whenever i'm awake
it's mainly for business purposes
i leave it on when i'm out, but i hardly ever check if anyone has called, if they really want to reach me, they can call my pager |

1st of all, if your friends don't want to be heard, then they should walk out of the room or to a more secluded area. Cell phones were designed for fairly quick conversations. Now with all the free airtime nowadays...they are used as a replacement for the land-lines. What bothers me the most is the lack of etiquette & consideration when others use their cell phones. I think they should be banned from movies and restaurants...if i hear another ring while i am eating or watching a flick, I am gunna explode!
I can't remember what country it was, but there was this guy whose cell phone kept ringing in a restaurant...a fellow asked him to turn it off, but the guy kept using it and letting it ring. So this fellow ran over grabbed the phone and beat the guy over the head with it until he was dead...guess this can be classified as "phone rage." :D - be careful out there |
