Hmm, are there any decent record stores in the (melbourne) city centre?, got a day to waste there tommorow, thought i may as well waste some money as well :p

Im not looking for a store that sells 12's, what i basically meant was a store like that sanity that perhaps has a decent electronic section...as i dont have tt's atm :(

Thanks in advance ;)

EDIT: srry bout the clone threads, dont know what happened there, they dont even have an author, let alone any text :conf:

There's a Sanity in bourke street (opposite Myer).. Down a laneway adjacent to Sanity, there is another music store, and i think its based on the sorta thing you're looking for - not sure of the name though.

try HMV on burke, jb on elizabeth or rhythm and soul (on little collins i think). there is also a gaslight music somewhere but i can't remember where.

Tis Rhythm and Soul, pretty limited range however... & Gaslight is up the top end of Bourke St just past Exhibition...

Go to an internet cafe and buy online at Australia's Premier Online Record Store - Vinyl Warning!!

depends what your looking for. if you want funky stuff/house whatever rhythm and soul is your best bet in the city just in the lane of bourke street next to sanity.

sanity - is okay but lack diversity. I shopped their for years but could rarely find what I wanted.

Vinylwarning - well if you love your trance, hard trance, hard dance, techno, breaks come to us mate. Good selection and cheap prices!!

Day off school?..lucky bastard :p There's Sanity Dance Arena in Bourke St, dunno about you but i hate that place. Down the little alley beside the Bourke St Sanity is Rhythm & Soul. If you dont like house then skip this joint as there is very limited prog and breaks. Its all house n chillout there. Central Station on Swanston is alright. Stocks a good range of all different styles, tranceboy would die to save this store so I'm guessing it must be an alright place. Hard to say where it is, but when walking up from Flinders St along the left hand side of Swanston, you cross Collins St, keep walkin and on your left you'll pass the stairs down to Hungry Jacks, now keep walkin, and the next stairs you see down in a little alcove is Central Station. Not really the city, but if you make it to Chapel, there's another Rhythm & Soul in Greville and Obese Records which is a hiphop store just off Greville. If you turn up Commercial Rd from Chapel towards the city you'll see DMC Records on the right hand side. This place is the epoteme of everything progressive in Melbourne, so if you like it prog, go there. There's also a pretty good dnb section out the back of it. Further up Commercial Rd is Vinyl Rebel which is also house, haven't been there much but it's on par if not better than Rhythm & Soul, but once again, if you dont like house, steer clear.

There's a few other stores here n there, but these are what i think are notable :p

one stop DJ....not sure where in melbourne though (i think it's in prahran or something like that)

I went to the one in Sydney last christmas, coming from perth, I spent like 4 hours there browsing their records and stuff, and most of them are good stuff.

Lol thanks pointy :p

Yeah, we had some photography thing, i spent 15 minutes on it, mainly taking trams and trains, then said it and went cd shopping  ;)

First off, went to r&s near sanity on bourke....twas a disturbing experience!

They were playing a horrible cheesey house vinyl with a soul kinda vocal as the chorus "do it baby yeah"....the guy at the desk kept repeating loudly "WHAT A HOT GROOVE". He then approached me and asked if i was a skater, which was kinda amusing, because ive never skated in my life :p

I got sick of it after awhile, the only thing there were some overpriced recent gu's, 50 bucks each.

Then went to sanity, been there before, dont like it either...too, well impersonal, and the range isnt good.

DIdnt get a chance to get to dmc or central station unfortunatley, had to report back to the ing teacher every 2.5 hours or you basically get suspended from school :haha:

Then i headed up to gaslight, which of course isnt an electronic store......

This was great actually, one of the guys was a prog fan, and altho he was a bit odd (hippy hair do :P), he insisted on discussing the junkie xl album i was listening to :p

ended up with an old chicane album, a bt album from the bargain bin :D, and the junkie xl job....it isnt an electronic store, but its actually quite good!

:stongue:

Nah, r & s is so much stranger, the guy who is there was making idiotic comments about trance.

"Oh judge jules eh, yeah, he's the biggest name in trance"

and listening to weird cheesey house tracks "WOW, WHAT AN HOT GROOVE" "DUDE, THIS IS GROVING" :nervous:

Then he thought i was a skater for some reason, and made strange comments about the jacket i was wearing, twas apparently some skate label, i wouldnt have a clue, never even owned a skateboard :stongue:
