DJ Christopher Lawrence was the unlikely cause of an airport evacuation as security-obsessed guards descended upon him at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Sunday, April 6th. Lawrence -- en route from a club gig in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Melbourne, Australia -- was detained for two hours and was interrogated by no less than thirty different officials from the Air Transportation Authority, Bomb Squad, Federal Security and the FBI. Possessing a baby-sweet face and spiked blonde hair, Christopher Lawrence also happens to be one of the more gentle and unassuming of the ‘superstar DJs’ in constant rotation around the globe today. As the various security forces scrutinised his DJ equipment and assorted musical gear, Lawrence was characteristically calm and polite, despite his growing concern that after having been detailed for two hours and having had his U.S. Passport confiscated, he might miss his connecting flight. Lawrence remarked, “Of course, it was quite unnerving. I kept thinking that my wife, who was waiting for me in Australia, was going to kill me if I missed this flight.” Thankfully, officials from United Airlines were able to verify that Christopher Lawrence is indeed a globe-trotting DJ who routinely flies over 200,000 miles a year on tour. Subsequently, United held the plane until the matter was resolved.
Reflecting on this harrowing experience, Christopher Lawrence quipped, “The whole time I was sitting there, I kept thinking about the weird stuff they were going to find in my suitcases, like the organic baby food and unbleached diapers that my wife had asked me to bring out to Australia for our seven-month-old son.”
The reason given for all the fuss and airport evacuation -- which caused delays in outgoing flights -- was apparent traces of explosives on a box of music equipment Lawrence was shipping to Melbourne to build a recording studio. Lawrence joked good-naturedly, “Times have changed. Ten years ago, I used to get stopped in Customs due to suspicions of drugs. Now I am being detained by the FBI and the Bomb Squad for allegedly carrying explosives. It’s not easy being a DJ.” The Federal Authorities and Bomb Squad conducted their business effectively however, considering that heightened airport security is on everyone’s minds today. The Feds were actually quite polite, despite not knowing or caring that Christopher Lawrence is a globally-renown DJ and producer, although they did not apologise to him once they released him. As can be expected, the Feds were highly interested in the supplier who sold Lawrence his equipment. The explosives residue on the box was never explained to Lawrence, although the Bomb Squad carefully dismantled and examined all the equipment inside. The equipment was later returned to Lawrence unharmed.
Christopher Lawrence’s latest mix CD, Exposure IV (System), is currently burning up dancefloors with its eclectic blend of underground trance. “After listening to the finished mix [of Exposure IV],” Lawrence said, “ I was really happy. It is the first time that I can truly say this. In the past, I have always wished that I could change things, either mixes or tracks, but there is nothing I would change on this mix.” He continues, “There are still a lot of people that have yet to experience this music, and I would hope that Exposure IV could be the introduction for them.”

Holy , that's horrible !
Let's hope he won't postpound any of his tour in North America after his incident.
But I have to say, I wouldn't have wanted to be in his place when this happened. |

Craziness... can't believe they would do that to him.
Canadian customs better be nice! I was mad that he wasn't on the WEMF bill, but looks like I'll get to see him anyway. :D
Anyone else wanna go? Lawrence is the epitome of anti-cheese-trance, anybody here who complains about cheesiness should definitely hear him spin. |
