Damn, after my unsuspected computer crash, i haven't been able to produce anything:( (and probably won't for a while either..)

Anyways, now's my chance to think music.. A lot..

Here i have two tunes, that i did a while ago, so i just wondered if any of u ta's would like to give some opinions on them and say if it's worth continuing on them, as i consider them beta versions.. And Pete, lol, u've heard them:)

I listened to Candyman - I thought it was pretty solid stuff, just needs some polishing touches.

The kick drum rocks, although it's a bit too distorted for my taste and I think there should be more intricacy to the hi hat patterns.

The hi-hats get a bit lost in the mix too - it's a bit odd to have them panned hard left and right the way you do because they don't merge together so well. If you want to keep the panning, don't have them hard left and right, put them half left and right and send them down a short reverb which will gel them in the same space. A bit of distortion on hi hats can also make them more noticeable in the mix.

The kick and the bass conflict with each other - especially noticeable towards the beginning of the track. This is because the kick is so powerful and you're using a powerful bass. The distortion on the kick generates harmonics which conflicts with the bass giving you 2 options:

1. Low Pass Filter the kick or use a less distorted kick.
2. Roll off some of the low end of the bass.

If you can, compress them together with the kick feeding the bass sidechain and it'll be a lot smoother and seem louder.

Joel, u look like a man with lots of knowloedge on this area, and i would love some feedback on this tune to:D Some people say it's the better of my productions, but i'm not sure. I like them all. Anyways, do you feel it's worth continuing on these tracks?

Peace

fatboy> i heard your candyman theme song, and i liked it. needed a lil more work i think, (im not one to talk, i feel crappy for only having said that) but i listen to insane amounts of trance, and i think that song just needs a lil more work to it, for a final finnish. but props to the good producing man, im dl'ing my heart right now as we speak:)

Yeah, I would say that My Heart is the better production too - it sounds to me like you just need to work on the polishing up of your mixes and turning them into something that sounds more like a release rather than a demo. This is something you really have to learn by ear, just by continually tweaking, but if you listen to commercial mixes alongside your's while you're mixing down you can get a good reference.

One thing that commercial mixes are full of is extras or fairy dust - stuff that's in the background that you don't notice on initial listens but once you know the track well you start hearing things you haven't heard before - if you can do the same thing without making your track sound too messy then you're sorted.

Thanx everybody again for the feedback:D:D

Just wanted to say something about my tunes..

These two were made in september and october last year, so they're really old, and they're made with somewhat primitive software. A combination of trackers. Cubase was used for mastering only. So i'm pretty pleased with what i made with those. I feel like i pushed the limits if what they're capable of.

I just started to use midi software, and that of course gives a much clearer sound. The problem is that my computer is colapsed:(:(, so i can't make music right now. That sucks, as music is the most important thing for me right now. Expect to hear more from me the day i get a new computer, and hopefully some hardware as well. It can be a while, but i'm still young, so i've got the time:) It really sucks to be limited by that (i use a friends computer now)

Peace
