I think Oakenfold already lost popularity since 99.. still like him tho ;) I agree he'll probably be in a greater decline this year and come back strong in the future maybe!

Just an objective view, not a personal preference ...
Most hardhouse / nu nrg DJs will hit it really big this year
Most trance DJs will lose out this year
sad but true ... hardhouse is the new trance right now (popularity-wise)

C'mon
ya'll better reconize :D
Max Graham will conquer all and that is final
already a resident at gate crasher
and
he will be doing the Tranceport 4 cd
Paul Oakenfold already became unpopular with all that gatecrasher crap. He is coming back now and starting to be original again.. in my mind.. I like his new stuff
and in my mind Paul van Dyk will for sure loose popularity. |

Suzaku sees the future
Although Tiesto's sets will continue to be superb and his productions amazing, his popularity will wane in the near future simply because he has become too popular. People will say "Bah... everybody listens to Tiesto, I'm cool because I like (insert unknown DJ here)". He will weather out his detractors in this rough period and will win many new fans in the UK and the US
Oakenfold has already lost alot of his former glory and sadly nothing he's come out with lately has conviced me he will rise again.
Ferry Corsten will continue to produce one fantastic song after another, as well as putting out many more amazing remixes.
People internationally will know the name Joshua Ryan first for "Pistolwhip", then for his other great tracks, "Distance", "The Chase", "Unreal" (heh... or at least they will now since I keep dropping his name on this forum).
OR I could be completely wrong about everything I've said and HHC will conquer all :D

HHC conquer all, I hope not!! I agree that Max Graham should get the recognition he deserves this year.. I agree that epic/uplifting trance will lose popularity, but like we already see, the progressive stuff will take off... I think this is good because if the epic style returns, it will be fresher (well it will still be around so when you hear them it will be more special than whats been happening lately, epic overload in my opinion, we're passed that stage already tho)
I can't wait to see new faces in this music also!!

I think it's funny how sometimes Paul Oakenfold catches a lot of for trying to bring electronica to a new audience. Most of the people that have responded to this particular topic feel that Paul Oakenfold will lose his popularity and fade from the fans' memories. But what most of you have failed to realize is the fact that probably 80-90% of the American audience is fairly inexperienced with the new wave of electronic music that's currently spreading here. That simple fact alone will make Oakenfold's fame probably triple in the coming year, not detiorate. The larger audience can appeal to Paul Oakenfold's style of music because it's very "user-friendly" in the aspect that almost anyone who's not a die-hard electronic music fan will still find it incredibly entertaining. I know that I did when I first started religously listening to electronica. I still regard him as one the the best DJ's that has ever lived. He paved the way for artists such as your famed Tiesto and Ferry Corsten. He still has a tremendous amount to offer the scene and I think it's a huge mistake to count out someone who has single-handedly changed electronic music the globe-over. It's fairly obvious that the audience that currently regards Oakenfold as a sell out and a cheese artist are a very cynical few and I feel don't accuratley represent the opinions of the masses in the U.S. and abroad.
The funniest thing to me about this entire argument is how the sound of Ferry Corsten, Tiesto, and frankly every single Dutch DJ (with the exception of Sander Klienenberg) could easily fall under the same "cheesy ass" sound everyone here seems to place Oakenfold in. Now don't take that completely the wrong way...I do have respect for them(Tiesto and Corsten have some amazing productions), but I don't feel that the arguement that their style is all too different from that of Paul Oakenfold's really carries any weight whatsoever.
Let's not forget, when Paul Oakenfold played at home in the UK this year, he did a bang up job. (IE: Gatecrasher Summer Sound System, and his Essential Mix from the NEC in Birmingham.)
Just my thoughts...
And a final note,
When Sasha and John Digweed embark on their 30 city U.S. tour this coming year will everyone dismiss them as sell-outs and cheese artists and cast them aside with Paul Oakenfold? If so, you'll have condemned the three best DJ's in the world. Perhaps the world will go crazy over the next back to back duo of "Corsten and Van Buuren." |
