What part of Trance production kills you? (pg. 2)

The most important element of trance is creating a drive. Once you have a drive (mostly consisting out of a bassline and 1 or 2 layered sounds that add to it) the melody and so kicking in shouldn't be a problem anymore.

Mosts problems I have myself is originality as well, you often take another track too much as an example and start building up to it.

stuff like percussion,beats,synths,leads, etc
im ok with, i can work with quite well.

but melodies are very hard for me, i can still come up with some good ones, although not as fast as i would like.

What if you try to complete the song within 24 hours? Would the same thing happen?

I have problems arranging a lot of my tracks too, that's because I spend too much time just listening to small clips I make out of the track instead of trying to complete the track.

I would actually say that your melodies are one of your strong points, esp the stuff under the TranceMaster & Secano alias'...

yes iv had a few people tell me that
but on a personal note, i find them hard to do.

currently my biggest frustration is coming from converting from live work to a serious recording environment and trying to maintain "song" integrity in such a way that future live shows will be more than a re-hash of the recorded work and to allow the recorded work to transcend the previously recorded live versions of the same components...

hope that makes sense...

arrangement, basslines, and breakdowns.

My arrangement skills are hard to start-up once I have all the patterns ready to arrange. I must learn to take the time and arrange my tracks properly and with feeling behind them.

I find it quite hard to find perfect basslines for the melody of each track. Most are simple and common, but sometimes I can't match right to the melody and it sounds like .

Breakdowns are not easy to do IMO. I have trouble making aunique breakdown on any track I make simply b/c i either find that I don't need one or don't want one, but somehow I know it should have one.

Melodies, everytime, i love doing complex drums and throwing in sounds in a sampler and tottally altering them with dynamic effects and filters but whats the point in doing that if you aint got a descent melody? I dont really have a problem with structure, it seems all about logic to me, if you want a tune to have a really big impact when it kicks in, rather than building up the kick in with crashes n swoops and stuff you can achieve a more dramatic kick in by removing some of the parts before the kick in, if that makes any sense. Use low pass filters to draw out some of the frequencys before the kick in and wack em back in on the kick in, instant hugeness.:D

I can't believe there are so many differences here. I suppose foolishly I expected about 2-3 parts (bassline, drums, melody) to keep popping up that ppl find harder than the others but i s'pose everyones different eh? :)

After reading all the posts i started to play around with FX as it popped up a few times. It's something i've not really played around with because i would put them in last (or close too) as finishing touches to the tune (and i don't normally get this far due to stumbling apon a new melody or bassline that doesn't fit, so i start a whole new tune for it:eek: ).

, where to start!!! I guess i'll pick it up eventually but for now it's just painfull. Very painfull. :nervous:

For those of you having problems matching basslines to melodies, I'd recommend you read up on some musical theory. You guys are working your melodies in proper key signatures right???? If you want to harmonize your basslines / strings / etc with your main melody then you really need to know what key you're working in, unless you just want to plug away at notes aimlessly in hopes of coming up with proper harmony =) Take a look at the way the 2nd violin harmonizes the first violin in an orchestral piece, for instance. It's all about the harmonization.

I have problems with percussions for the most part, it's hard for me to make non generic percussions that really come out well on a good sound system. I also have problems creating bass sounds that sound "professional", for lack of a better word. My basslines always have a somewhat amateur sound to them. Another thing I find troublesome is the use of filler type effects, things that turn a tune from about 90% finished to 100% finished.

Then there's mastering, but that's a whole other story =P

I really wish Hybrid would give me a tutorial on effects, percussions and overall mastering, those guys rule =)

This is what i get stuck on, i cant seem 2 make the FX and atmos of my tracks flow and sond long, they always sound 2 short and snappy
