The Matrix revolution Explained I was going to put this the matrix forum but people might miss it , if you dont want to know what happens dont read the last chapter.

If we look at it carefully, we can see that the movie Matrix is almost a biblical parable. In fact, the authors wanted to create an atmosphere mixed of myths and biblical references, but it turns out that the movie actually illustrates a profound and deep biblical truth.

First, let’s deal with the nouns in the movie.

Keanu Reeves is Thomas Anderson, that is to say Saint Thomas, the apostle who did only believe what he saw. And that’s what Keanu is at the begining of the movie. Someone who finds it difficult to believe. Then, he would become Neo, the anagram of One, that is to say, the chosen one, the Elect. But it is also a reference to Neo, the New-Born christian.

Keanu is helped in his quest by Trinity. Here, the idea is clear : Trinity is the idea of God.

They are betrayed by Cypher, the Judas of the team, but they should have been suspicious knowing his name : Cypher, the diminutive of Lucipher, the Devil.

The ship is the Nebucadnezzar, who is the King of Babylon who invaded Israel in the Old Testament.

Those are only cheap details. Let’s come to the interesting point.

I / About the slavery and the human condition

Matrix tells the story of a world in which men lost their war against the machines and have been deposed of their status of “king of the world” (James Cameron would not like that). All men are born slaves of the machines. They are condemned as soon as they come to the world, to live in a craddle where the machines will absorb their vital energy.

That’s exactly what the Bible teaches. The Bible teaches in Romans 3:23 that “all men have sinned and have fallen short the glory of God”. That’s the doctrine of sin. As soon as they are born, they are slaves. All men are slaves of sin. That’s the tragedy that teaches the Bible. And that’s the truth. Every person who has not accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour is just as a baby in a craddle. That’s an illustration of the reality.

In order to avoid a rebellion from the human beings, the Cyborgs have introduced in the human brain a computer illusion which gives men the impression that everything is allright, that they live their lives as they want, they have a woman, a job, a life, that they are totally free. But that’s a lie.

The Bible teaches that the Devil is ruling the world, that he is the prince of this world. The Bible teaches that Satan is liar “When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own ressources, for he is a liar and the father of it” (John 8:44). The Devil has introduced in the human brain a lie. A lie that prevent him from seeing the truth. “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:4). Every person in this world is blinded by the lie of satan. Every person in this world is a victim of the Matrix. The Matrix is the lie of satan.

The proof is that if you take a man, a grown-up, he will tell you that he found his truth and that he has his own conviction. But, if the same guy had been raised in another country in the deep jungle or in China or in Australia taking care of the kangoroos, he would be totally someone else. A different person who would have a total different way of thinking. That is the proof of the power of the Society that shapes you. That is the proof of the Lie of satan that blinds you. Nobody can say “I am in the truth” or “I’ve found who I am” until this person finds Jesus.

Today, everybody thinks it’s normal to die. That’s a common thing that happen, and that it has to happen. But that’s a lie ! That’s the lie of the devil. The truth is that when God create something, this thing or this person shall live forever. But because of Sin, death came into the world and that’s why people die. But originally, Death is something totally abnormal. (see Romans chapter 1)

II / About the separation of the two worlds

What is amazing in Matrix, is that the movie clearly illustrates the separation between the two worlds : the True one and the False one. The true one is a dark world. You always have to fight to survive, to fight against the “Mr Smith”, the machines, there is no sun, no light, you eat very bad in a dark submarine. This matches with what the Bible teaches : all men are slaves of Sin, satan is the prince of the world, this world is in ruins, sinking (like the Titanic), men are unable to do good. When you are a christian you have to face the mockery of the others, you suffer in the name of Christ.

The False World, is the one you see everyday, the one that is subject to so much covetousness. The Bible teaches that : “the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:17)

III / About the reminiscence

At the begining of the movie, Trinity comes to talk to Neo and tells him “isn’t it something you are wondering since ever, a question in your mind that you cannot explain ?”, and then Neo answers “what’s the matrix ?”

This is an echo to the sentence “he has eternity in their heart” (Ecclesiaste 3:11). The Bible teaches that every man is born with a knowledge of he truth. Every man has somewhere in his mind the question of God, of eternity. That’s one of the reason why people will be unexcused the judgement day (2 Thess. 2:10)

IV / About the Free Will

Morpheus proposes a choice to Neo. He never forces him to accept the truth, but tells him : “Choose. The truth or the lie. Choose the truth and the truth will set you free”. That is almost a quotation of the Bible : “And you shal lknow the truth and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). In the real life it is the same. We have a choice to make. God never obliges us. It’s our responsibility to make a choice, red pill or blue pill, truth or lie, life or death ?

V / About the proof

What is interesting is that the consequence of the separation of the two worlds, is that it is impossible to make the proof of the existence of the real world when you are in the false one. Morpheus tells Neo that he cannot prove what he is talking about unless he follows him in the real world. Neo must go into the real world before he can see the truth.

The problem is about the same when you are christian and that you want to evangelise. You cannot prove what you say, but you can only testify that Jesus has delivered you from Sin and that his Spirit is living in you. But, if the guy what to see it by his own eyes, he has to come and look by himself : that is to say read the Bible, prayer, got to the church, talk with christians etc. Once you’ve done that, everything is much more clear.

VII / About the helplessness of the deeds

Neo, even if he is gifted, when he is training is not strong enough to defeat Morpheus or to jump from a building to another. He does not have supernatural powers. When you are christians, it is the same. You have no powers. The more you try to become stronger, the weaker you are and the more you fail. Neo gets his super powers only after having become the One, the Elect. We, christians have no powers, our deeds are vain, and everything we do by ourselves is vain. But we can be strong and have super powers if and if only God touches us by his mighty hand and gives us the powers to do his will. We are strong by grace not by works (Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God”)

VIII / About the New birth

This part is very theoretical and schematic. Neo fights with Mr Smith and dies. Until then he was close to the truth but the truth was not in him. Once dead, Trinity tells him her love for him, kisses him and then he comes back to life. Let’s schematise : Neo dies, and by the love of God (Trinity=God) comes back to life and is a new born person. “unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3)

IX / About the new perspective

Once new born, Neo becomes strongest that ever. But what is more important is that since that moment he sees things as they are really, that is to say ligns of red numbers that are scrolling (the matrix, the computer illusion). The christian should have that kind of vision too. The world is not a kingdom in which we have to build our place. The world tries to makes us believe that what it proposes is great : cars, women, sex, to be rich and famous, money, success, fame etc. But that’s a lie. If we could see what the world proposes we would see just columns of red numbers, vanity of vanity. The greatest star of Hollywood are not people who are rich and happy, they are just miserable sinners that are lost and do not know the truth.

X / About the need to evangelise

The end of the movie is extraordinary. Neo is one the phone and talks to the machines and says “I know the truth. I know that the world is a lie and that you are liars. And I will spend my life telling to the world that you are liars”.

This is absolutely great. That’s the leitmotiv of the christian. To announce Christ crucified and Christ risen from the Dead.

Epilogue

Matrix demonstrates that the highest value in the whole universe is not money, good, beauty, knowledge, love, or whatever but the Truth. Whenever the world would not be great but sad and dark, if it is not true, it does not worth living in it. Truth, nothing but the truth. And the whole truth is in Christ.

“We know that we are of God and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked oneWe know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”

1 John 5:19

blah! you said it would explain matrix revolutions, but it's all about analogies between the bible and the first matrix movie.

I want my 30 seconds back!

This is the best Matrix theory I have read. It seems very plausible.

i luv the matrix movies and all, but sometimes i get soo confused :conf:

Why is it all about the belief system based around the Bible? IMHO... The Matrix isn't JUST about Christianity. I think it covers the whole 'religion' issue.
Excite
these stupid christian matrix theories have been known since the original came out..

old news!!!

The matrix movies are essentially a hodge-podge of freshman year philosophy readings of Kierkegaard, Baudrillard and entry-level Rastafarianism.

The result is pretty interesting tho...:)

ahh yes.. throw a bit of Plato in there, just for kicks.

I shall not pursue my original train of thought, which came into bashing seriously whoever came out with this theory for attempting to cover the truth [dearest hypocrisy]. Props to Misty Kitty and anyone else aware of their own power of themselves. If god and jesus exist, they sure don't give a about us.

And why is the devil so bad? or to say, how could god be good without the devil? tu quote LaVey on the Ninth Satanic Rule, "The Devil is the best friend the church has ever had for it kept it in business all these years". Anybody even remotely familiar with dialectics is aware of how interconnected such things are.

But before I turn this into an undesired religious discussion... I think society clouds us. I think there's a matrix today, and few are beginning to hack it. Everybody else... sheep for the shepherds.

I'll be a lone wolf.

after watching it for the second time at the IMAX here yesterday i came up with a very similar theory of it myself :D

the basis of the movie is that machines need humans just as much as humans need machines...remember the conversation the councilman has with neo?

abt zion. when neo speaks with the architect, the architect tells him that he is the result of a systemic anomaly, which altho aberrant is still necessary for the survival of the system. i believe zion is part of this systemic anomaly...its a necessary control in that it's existence is paramount to the survival of the system, yet at the same time it cannot be allowed to get out of control because that too will lead to the destruction of the matrix. whenever it does get out of control, it gets destroyed, and this is what the architect is speaking of when he says that they had destroyed it five times before and have become exceedingly efficient at it, after which time The One once again picks 23 individuals to re-seed zion, so that the anomaly is re-introduced and the cycle begins all over again. the machines need the humans to survive, its also what the oracle hints at when she says the only way to get to the future is "together".

what this means is that zion is not a real city and in reality everyone is still plugged into the system. thats why at the end neo is able to destroy the sentinels and agent smith is also able to enter zion. they couldn't have done that if zion were a "real" city.

as far as the love thing goes, i dont think that it is the *goal* of the architect to enable AI to understand love. neo is a part of the matrix and as such is not even human, but everyone else - trinity, morpheus, etc. *are*--they're still plugged in, tho. so whats really happening is that you have a program, NEO, that has sumhow learned to fall in love, and this is what the architect speaks of when he says that neo's experience has been far more *specific*...

remember that scene when neo and trinity return to "zion"...when they're kissing in the elevator and then they come to this floor and all those ppl. come up and offer neo gifts...then trinity leaves and he says "i need you" and she says "they need you"?? there you have it - a machine, a program, NEO, "needing" trinity, who's human, and ppl. (who are still plugged in), "needing" neo. machines needing humans, and humans needing machines.

thats also why only neo is able to do the things that no one else can (no human, anyway).

so there are good programs and bad ones. good ones are like the oracle and the asian guy who protects her, and also the keymaker. bad programs are like the merovingian and agent smith.

so thats my theory, thank you for reading.
