man, this computer hates me... i did everything Moongoose said, but still:

same thing for the secondary controller, only both devices run in PIO mode

I HATE RETAIL COMPUTERS!!!!

This happened to me once on my old computer.

It turned out being a virus,, it was constantly running a pile of junk in the background (which you cant notice) and so everything got lagged down, even simple things like right clicking.

I just found the little guy, deleted him, and it was back to normal.

holy , have you ever seen anything more pitiful????

i'm sorry, did you mean a year ago? because when i got my computer - 4 years ago - 600Mhz was the fastest you could get (but you'd have to pay a LOT), and my 500mhz was considered 1337 :D :D :D

The processors out today are unbelievable. Pentium 4, 2.6CGHz with hyper threading technology enabled, combined with the right motherboard (preferrably a P4p800, intel 865 chipset) and DDR memory can do absolute wonders. I did some heavy research, and I too, am planning to get rid of my ancient PC, and replace it with a new one.

You can build a complete, top-of-the-line system for less than 1,200 US dollars (if you knew where to look that is).

The processors out today aren't "unbelievable", they're just plain fast relative to previous CPUs.

That is a retarded solution. "My OS crashes on me, therefore I'm going to buy the latest and greatest (almost) hardware so it doesn't". That doesnt fix the problem...

My computers been going really choppy when I open a program, minimize a program or maxamize a program, or even when im runing winamp the computer kinda freezes for a secend and whatevers in winamp starts going choppy. What could be doing this?

I installed a third hard drive the other day, and when windows started acting up I pulled it out... So I dont know what the problem could be.

Heres what my system is.

Windows XP
1.00 GHZ AMD Atholon Processor
512 MB of Ram
7.86 Hard Drive & a 28 Gig

So wtf.

For anyone with computer experience please help me out.

Just a thought. It could be your display drivers. Bad display drivers can actually lag the whole system.

What video card?
Moongoose
No i mean years ago :D Like october 2000 i think. Anyway when i bought it the thing just came out i was like woaaah :) Spent a fortune on the thing :)

Anyway about the problem. Just do the steps again. WinXp has a crappy code and it messes with ur computer whenever it can :whip: I remember doing the procedure 2 or 3 times a day if it was needed. But like i said since i installed serveice pack 1 i havent had the problem with this yet. I dont know what causes it though. It happened to me in any condition. Fuul drive, empty drive, defragmented drive, fragmented drive (holly shietz dude defragment ur drive at once :)) So basicl all one can do is to hope that MS does a good job on the next patch (heres a thing that will never happen)

Ok heres the deal goto task manager and look at everything thats running and check out the system process , it will show you whats running, check on google on what should be running , get adware, and i recommend that u run a few disk cleaning tools if all fails buy a P4 3.20Ghz Dual Hyperthreading Mother ****** !

Check all IDE chanels if they work in DMA or PIO mode. If they say DMA this is not the case, if it says PIO mode heres what you do.

Select all IDE channels (there sould be 2 unless you ahve an extra IDE card in your system) and click unnistal. There sould also be another entry thaere that says master IDE controler. Leave that one alone :) Anyway after unninstalling the IDE channels the compuer will say it needs to restart. Let it. When it enters windows the system willinstall new drivers for the IDE channels. After another restart both you IDe channels should be running in IDE mode and everything should be ok :)

Hey mongoose I checked this and 1 of my IDE drives
the primary is in DMA. The secondary is in PIO..What should I do? Delete just the secondary one that is in PIO or both even though the primary one is DMa..Thnx in advance...

the system idle process does noughting, its just there to ballance the books so to speek so the total percentage of all cpu threads is 100%, dont be worried by it, its harmless :)
Space Cadet
Ok cool thnx..This always worried me, bc this sytem idle process always used a lot of my cpu..but thanks for the info
