| I've also got a fear of heights (and other things too). If I stand on a balcony or some other high place, I have to grab something with my both hands, because I'm scared of falling down.. :nervous: |

Good advice, one thing i'd add is its important to overcome normal height situations, but its not essential to be able to do extreme sports. Ppl either get a rush from the fear of heights or it makes them feel sick. At an amusement park, some rides i dont go on, not because i cant but because i dont find them fun. |

Imagine someone really cool. Robert DeNiro for example, in the same situation as you.
Be him. Do as he'd do. Ignore your fear and shrug it off, tell yourself not to be such a . |

DJ_NRG very wise post.
I have fear of hights as well but not as bad as i did before, the trick that got me to it was slowly pushing yr self and understanding the problem truying 2 calm down and take control of the situation.
I'm stil afraid to stand near the edge of say 5 storey buildings as im scared the wind wil change and woopieeeee splat. So i creep up to the edge by crawling to it and that way you know for sure that nothing can push you off. So if pushing yr self and taking a step at a time byt creeping up on it should be a good go as wel.
I think my fear started as when i lived in europe the place i was born, it was a 10 storey building, and i have sein afew people who have fell from the top stores, kids and elderly so i was just having a fear to end up like them.
So try understand why exactly you are afraid, and why you think theres a danger and exactly of what then comes the step part :)
Sorry if it sounds confusing but i hope it helped you a tiny bit at least knowing ure not the only one.

About alcohol, great idea isnt it, get drunk and you will die for sure by stumbeling off the fukn balcony :(

i just realized i had a fear of heights when i was on the seattle space needle, I couldnt stand by the edge, I felt like the whole thing was shaking and I was going to fall off even though I knew it wasn't going to happen |

all a counselor will tell you is the same thing as DJ_NRG.
They will teach you relaxation technics (sp. I know) first. These are simple deep breathing and thinking of relaxing places. You then fill out a hierarchy of about 20 places that will scare you...(e.g. ladder, roof, building, plane). Next you will go to a safe spot with people you trust. You start off with the bottom of the hierarchy and practice that height with your relaxation technics. You will get used to it after a while, then you move up the hierarchy.
After a few months you are cured, Keys to success: relaxation, SLOWLY do it, be around people you trust.
Well that is what I learned in my Psych. classes. |
