Special No Thanks: To all the ignorant people who discriminate against others based on nationality, ethnicity, color, religion, sexual preference, looks or any other reason - especially at airports! Honorable mention to the Air Canada staff at Washington National Airport for not letting us get on our flight to Toronto because we happen to be born in Iran.

it's a shame really, again just reinforces the idea that no one is immune ..
btw. the comment was printed on an insert page in the lastest Global Underground CD recorded live in Toronto .. |

Well the guy probably wasn't denied out of the country ... he either had passport problems or was held up for security checks and missed his flight. Maybe he got to the airport late ... maybe he had something in his luggage that raised suspicions ... maybe the people at air canada are dicks ... maybe the FBI has a hard on for Iranian DJs ... who knows? No sense in throwing hissy fits over an obscure 1 sentence statement when we don't have any idea of what happened. If Deep Dish elaborates more as to what happened then maybe I'll say more about the issue. But until then ... I still don't like his music :). |

| Is is kind of like that case where a stewardess wouldn't let a Lebanese-born Secret Service agent board a plane because of his ethnicity.:whip: :whip: :whip: |

you're right about we dont know for sure what really happened, but i can tell you the unwanted post 9/11 paranoia could be the main cause of that. because personally i KNOW friends, who are muslims...they're being scrutinized and unjustly treated...just because they're muslims. very similar thing happen to a friend of mine as well. |

I'm Iranian born, but a Canadian citizen, since 9/11 2002, i've been finger printed, videotaped, interviewed, had my name checked against the known terrorist list all approximatly 3 times (every time i've gone to the states) I've wasted roughly 12 hours waiting to go through customs becuase of these checks. I watched a family of 8 get scrutenized who had to wait approxmatly 8 hours at customs to go through. Girls aged 12 and such needed to be interrogated. I find the whole matter a little rediculous, though neccesary but this kind of profiling is getting out of hand since most of the known terrorists wouldnt be stupid enough of to use their real names while traveling anyway. There is so many ways of getting through the system that this kind method of tracking is just useless. The customs officer I had a conversation with one time even said so. A terrorist who is not on the list of known terrorists can still get into the U.S and do harm. So whats the point of tracking everyone and reducing there rights and privilegs to that of a common criminal who is on parole?? |

i think it happens to any ethnicity that happens to meet the racial profile of members of the country that happens to be at war ..
what i found more unobvious was not that they were Iranian born, but that they're some of the US's biggest DJ's .. unfortunately electronic music still isn't at a point on this continent where its artists can be easily recognized by members of its own public.
I remember BT or Christopher Lawrence once complained that custom officials thought that his equipment was being used to build a bomb .. |
