Sup guys, I'm thinking of buying the Bowflex. Just wondering what you all think. If anyone from here has it, what is your opinion of it?
I'm in definate need of a workout. I used to go to gyms quite a bit but got real lazy when I started working full time and going to school. Now I got lots of time and I'm looking for a home gym. If you have it at home or have used it before please tell me what you think. Thanks in advance!
btw here's the link to their official site.

| bowflex is good for like toning and muscle burn but iw oudlnt advise trying to bodybuild or anything like that...but it all depends what kind of results you are working for. personally i don't think you can equal the results you would get with free weights but its all personal preference i guess. i know a couple people that have had great results from the bowflex.:p |

Just remember, the guys and gals on the ads, they're already on steroids and do other weights for years. They just get called in to pretend the bowflex was what did it for them. Fake.
Just don't expect results like that just from some stupid beam that can flex... |

Bow Flex is garbage. If your serious about working out you should go to a gym. Old fashioned weight lifting and mad cardio is what works.
Dont waist your money |

besides, it'll be tuff to keep urself motivated if u're working out all alone, and at home where there's lots of distractions
going to the gym will be better cos that way when u see everybody else working out it'll be easier for u to feel motivated, plus sumtimes u get to see hot chix at the gym =) |

thanks for the help guys.
What I really want to do is add some body mass. I'm pretty skinny and I noticed when I went to the gym religiously before I added a lot of weight and muscle and got ripped really fast. I was pretty impressed with the results.
However after I started working fulltime I got super lazy about going to the gym and kept paying my membership for 2 straight years without ever hitting the gym once.
So now I'm seriously looking for a home gym. I'll start checking out some fitness stores and see what I can find. Thanks for the great help. |

| bowflex takes the large bulky muscle mass you already have and tones it, if you want to build muscle you need something where you arent using 90% of your strength keeping the damn handles straight |

| i own a bowflex and i work out with everyday... i also go to a gym everyday and workout there.... personally i think both are great and both have their disadvantages and advantages... if you need motivation go to the gym... if your a professional and you've been going to the gym for years and you can do it by yourself without any help you know how to operate every equipment and know how everything works... get yourself a bowflex ^_^ |

that's pretty much me. I don't really need a personal trainer and I'm really self sufficient. Everyone whom I talked to who has the bowflex seems really happy with it and have gotten some really good results.
I don't normally get too excited and trust products that I see on infomercials so that's why I decided to ask here for more opinions. Anyways I'm gonna get them to send me the vid and brochure. I'm pretty surprised with the negative responses to the Bowflex, I really thought it would be a lot more popular.
I'm most definately done with going to the gym and one way or another I need to get myself a home gym really soon no matter what.
I have no doubts that I would get good results with the Bowflex and knowing me I'll most likely succumb to temptation and just buy it anyways. Thanks for all the help again everyone, I'll take a look at what other good home gyms are available but I'll probably end up getting the Bowflex in the end. :haha: :haha: :haha:
I'll pose for a before and after shot when I use it....j/k :D |

I've been weightlifting for over 3 years now and have noticed that no matter how dedicated you are, you still need to eat properly in order to achieve anything. By eating properly I mean eat lots of protein (or use protein powder), otherwise you'll never see the results you expect.
Remember intensity + dedication = results |

Don't forget vitamins too with lots of protein. You can take flintstone vitamins if you want. lol. j/k
I don't think the bowflex is that bad, but it is sure expensive as hell to buy. I have never used it but a guy I know has one and said it works for him. If you want to save money when you buy the bowflex, you can buy them used. That was what my friend did. He bought the bowflex off some lazy bum who lost dedication and decided to sell it. Got it real cheap and was barely used because the original owner was lazy. :D |

I have never used the bowflex, so I can't really say if it's good or not. What I can say is that freeweights are usually better than any machine because you achieve a much more fluid and extended range of motion. This range of motion helps to stimulate more muscle fibers, and gives you better results.
If a machine gym is your only option (if you wont have anyone spotting you at home etc) than I recommend that it has enough weight/resistance for you to really push your muscles. The more weight the better. It should also let you work on the different major muscle groups (chest, biceps + triceps, back + shoulders + traps, abs, and legs). If it only allows you to work out two or three of these muscle groups, I wouldnt recommend using it.
Some people have also commented on 'toning' muscle, as apposed to building mass. There is no such thing as toning muscle. When you stimulate your muscles with maximum overload (not muscle fatigue) your muscles will grow in mass. When you stimulate your muscle with high reps and low weight, you will fatigue your muscle (as apposed to overloading it) and you will not see as much results in muscle size. Muscles will never get toned, they will never change their shape or form, and will never get more pronounced unless they are increasing in mass (or the fat tissue above the muscle decreases, emphasizing the muscle's contour). |
