taking protein is just like eating a lot of meat or whatever..you need a certain amount in your body to feed your muscles so that your muscles will grow...u can either eat a lot of high protein food, or buy the powder....if you want a meal replacement try APM 60. This has 60 grams of protein which is reallllly good..but i would recomend Nitrotech, but the only real nitrotech that actually has nitrogen in it(so your muscles wont get as sore) is int he united states...u can find it some places in canada but it is a controlled substance. Try Whey Gourmet...they have really good flavours and have a good protein amount. Ideally you want to take the same amount of protein per day as your body weight...so if you weigh 150lbs, try and eat 150 grams of protein per day.. if you do this you will get really good gains fast.:disbelief |
I heard that the nitrogen thingy found on the nitrotech products have something called NO2, and that is something found in viagra. So the nitrogen does help you get big but only for a while like viagra. So it is in a sense, viagra for the body. :D |

| NO2 is a muscle pump complex. It dialates the blood vessels to allow more blood flow to the muscles. It essentially is supposed to give you a 24 hour pump, but to say that you lose all your gains once you stop taking it is not true. |

Cool thanks, I don't really want a meal replacement, is Whey Gourmet one of those? or are all the protien shakes meal replacements? |
No, not all protien shakes are meal replacements.
There are some with a high amount of carbohydrates, and generally these can be used for meal replacements. There are also protien shakes with hardly anything in them besides protien.
I highly recommend "Interactive ISO whey". It has around 40g of protien in it, mixed with milk its around 53g. It is generally recommended that you keep your protien intake to around 50g per serving. It is also very good tasting, smooth, and you dont need as much as some of the other brands to get this amount of protien. It is one of the purest forms of protien avaliable, created with whey protien isolate. Drink a glass of this after your workout and you will definately benifiet from it.
If you buy a cheaper brand, usually there are some downsides. You dont get as much protien per serving, and the protien is a lower purity/quality. It also tends to mix worse, leaving lumps in your drink. And you need more scoops of the powder per serving. I recently cut corners abit and picked up an Interactive Pro FX, and I need twice as much powder and milk as I did with the ISO whey.
I highly recommend this site for buying protien powders and other fitness supplements:
Sport Nutrition Depot
Prices are usually ALOT cheaper than in health stores, like 35% cheaper. Plus, shipping is really reasonable. and delivery takes only 2 days or so.
Hope this helps. |

hey thanks for the great link! Dj Chrono.
I have used protein shakes before and it really helped a lot. That was also the time when I worked out everyday and always took one after a workout.
You really also have to eat right as well and don't just depend on these drinks alone. |

| i've said it before and i'll sa yit again. don't come here asking people about weightlifting. although i'm sure there are a few diamonds in the rough...most people here don't know jack diddley about weight training. why don't you go to the gym...find the buff guy and ask him what he's doing...what he's eating. you want some advice here it is...don't listen to people telling you to buy meal replacement shakes because yes they fill you up and yes you will gain weight, but not the kind your looking for. yes they have lots of carbs...all of which is sugar!! if you want to do something right you'll find a way to do it. if you want to get a bowflex...go right ahead. i'm sure that its good for toning up, but don't expect size. size comes from large compound movements like squats, bench, shoulder press, leg press etc. i don't mean to sound like an ass, i'm just trying to warn you... |

| floorfiller that was a useless post how do u know that im not a big buff guy that goes to the gym everyday..im sure a lot of ppl know a lot more than you. Not all protein powder has carbs in it and not all the carbs are sugar. And to put on size? Bench press if for strength not size. If you wanna get big, do 4 sets of 6-12 reps with heavy weight. train 1 body part a day, so do like 4 exercises for chest, and maybe throw in some calves or hamstrings.. I find that on Leg days it is ridiculosu to try and work every part of your leg because you wont be walking for the next couple days.. try splitting it up. |

did i say that all protein powders have carbs? i personally, use a protein powder with no carbs. what i said is don't use "Gainer" products as someone suggested because the extra carbs are all sugar, if you are a smart as you claim you are you must read the labels. and how can you say that bench does not help to build size?? i'm not talking about doing 1 rep maxes or some ...i'm talking about using it as a standard exercise in a rotation of many. and just to prove to you how reasonable i am...i agree with you on the number of sets, reps and your comments on leg days (except that "maybe throw in some calves" comment which sounds to me like something a skinny-legged punk would say  ). i don't think that my post was pointless. i gave him good advice....ask someone you KNOW know's a thing or to and stay away from supplements that are counter-productive. i'm not saying that TA's are incapable of being in shape i'm just saying that most people hear are rolling half their lives and could care less about there bodies... |

| fair enough, but calves for something that a skinny punk would say??? cmon now we all know that most people just train their upper bodies so they look huge on top but ridiculous on the bottom. So most skinny punks probably dont even attempt to do calves. But to be completely honset i do know a fair amount about supplements and health..since i work out with my brother he is a monster. |

true...beach muscles is a disease everywhere. i've read all the posts and i can tell that you know some stuff, and i wasn't really talking about you earlier, i'm just trying to warn the guy that things aren't always as they seem. people that claim to know...don't always know that much which is why i said ask a buff guy at the gym. |

I mix a scoop of Whey Gourmet (Strawberry + Banana) into skim milk and it tastes great. I've tried other products but this one is really superior in taste and results, I highly recommend it. |
