I've been members at 8-10 gyms in 4 different provinces and can tell you that they vary soooooo much from one to another. I can say for sure though that the one gym that I'm trapped at (Premier) is definitely amongst the worst run gyms I've ever been with. The location on Burnhamthorpe and Erindale Stn in Mississaugs is BY FAR THE WORST GYM I'VE EVER WORKED OUT AT....EVER. In fact, I hate it so much, I drive 10kms to the one in Oakville instead. I can't wait till my year expires next month. I'm never going back there. Make sure you also find out what the contract terms are because you don't want to be stuck like I was for 12 months at a POS gym.
Of course i'm super fussy, so that doesn't help, and having been to good gyms in my life makes me expect alot more than most people too.
Did I mention the Premier location on Burnhamthorpe and Erindale Stn in Mississaugs is BY FAR THE WORST GYM I'VE EVER WORKED OUT AT....EVER?   |
Why don't you cancel your membership w/ them? I know you are contracted. But hey you can break it. Just contact your credit card company and tell them that you lost your visa and need a new one. Then tell them not to accept billing from that fitness club anymore. Hope it helps. |

Nay, my good man, things don't work that way when you sign a termed contract. It's a one year membership. Same thing if I signed up for a cellphone plan. You have to continue to pay the dues/fees for a year regardless of whether you use the facilities or not. There is no pay for 1 month in security and you're done option. If I stopped paying or cancelled my authorization, then it goes to a bill collection agency.
It's ok though because my membership expires in August. Woohoo! I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel..... :tongue3 |

Yeah, I don't know if I mentioned this but when I was touring Premier, a guy pulled me to the side and told me about 'how bad' the gym was! A big problem he had was their financial agency, he said they try to rip you off most of the time and he prefers to pay cash upfront so he wouldn't have to deal with the credit stuff... Funny thing is, after I walked out, I remembered seeing my friend who was waiting in an office and when I asked him why, he told me "his checks did not go through for the entire year" and now they are expecting him to pay the annual fee with one check.
lol, plus their staffs, 'THE WORST' it's like they didn't want me to come at all! But no worries to them, I wont ever go there!
Good Life on the other hand is sounding good from most people here! I'm going for a tour Saturday, thanks again! |

| I'm partial to going to the YMCA acually. Then again, I'm from 'Sauga. A little under $40 gets the equipment I need, a full sized pool, and some other stuff on the lower floor. |

Replying a little late... FYI I'd say premier... you can get a year for about 325 (just tell them all your friends paid that) (that includes a fitness test (100$ value)
as well they're moving to 3 different locations in/around mccowan 7 next year which are alot nicer... prices will go up then |

The works IMO is nasty... in/around markham you'll have premier, goodlife & the works.. the works is far from good compared to those two, and new members will pay between 25-30$ |

weights are weights! u dont need some fancy bull. (well maybe if ur some snobby kid and u wanna go to the 'NEW' gym in town) and if u've been to the works RECENTLY u'd kno theyve dropped the price considerably. |

I got to Premier on Islington......its not too bad but as some of you have already mentioned the machines do get broken too many times. The year before that i was signed up at the Premier across from Sherway Gardens and men did that place suck....their air conditioning was out all summer and they did not bother to repair it. The staff was pretty nice though.
Recently i have gone to gym as often and work out home and do some running and cycling works out to about the same thing as the gym and it is much cheaper. |
