I was in the kitchen yesterday having lunch, when I served myself a glass of Coke, and the cup - just exploded. OK, so you figure: alright, the soda was really cold and the cup was hot, or something of that nature, but no. I simply took a cup out of the cabinet, and poured some soda. Alright, so that was very odd, but here's the kicker. Just a couple of minutes ago, I came inside to get myself another cup of soda, because the cooler in the backyard was empty, and all the BBQ guests drank all the Coronas (damnit!) Same, I poured some Sprite, and put the cup down in the same spot - BOOM! The cup ing exploded. OK, so now I'm very curious. I checked to see if the surface was hot from the dishwasher. No. I looked underneath in the cabinets to see if there's anything odd. No. Nothing...

By the way...I just went and poured a cup of water and put it on the counter again. ....it exploded again.

Um...anyone wanna take a crack at this one..?

My friend's mom once took a plate out the dishwasher and it exploded in her hand like 5 seconds after she took it out, she didnt run it under cold water or anything...

That's en insane.

Does it have to be in the exact same spot to explode??

if u set ur cup on a surface like cement with ridges or lines then maybe thats why. because i used to set my glass cups on cement and cement irratates the glass or something, i think.

Maybe there's a nearby source resonating at the same natural frequency as when you pour liquid into the cup and hold it...
