Yesterday (July 6 2003) I was at the Summer Sanitarium Tour @ the Skydome. Before the questions fly - I didn't buy the ticket - my brother moved to LA (music biz) and had already bought a ticket, so he gave me his.
The order of bands who played was: Mudvayne, Deftones, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and Metallica.
I was there from 5PM to 12AM and saw the last 3 bands. Now I'm not die-hard into this music - but I do know good music and putting on a good show, so here's my review:
Linkin Park - didn't play all that long, but the music was good (at least there was some harmony).
Limp Bizkit - music was pretty brutal and the show was so/so. Didn't Ice T pioneer this type of music way back with his band "bodycount"? The singer of this group seems to think he invented rapping to rock music.
Metallica - they had sound trouble the whole show, but they are great musicians. They played a lot of pre-"black album" stuff that I didn't know all that well (other than a few songs) and didn't play any of their newer stuff from load and re-load. Overall these guys know how to put on a good show. I'm glad I can now say I saw metallica.
The venue?? Walking into the skydome was like walking into a time warp. I swear it was 1989. Bleach washed jeans, mullets, rock-bimbos, handle-bar moustaches, etc. It was pretty crazy. I guess every scene has their "kandy ravers".. ;)
Overall I had a good time. Would I have paid the $105 to see the show? No, probably not.
Good to see my fellow MAs (metal addicts) at the show! Will see you all again soon @ Spin Saturday II.

RJ you're a goddamn skid!:stongue: J/k After going to mostly parties/clubs over the last couple years it's alright to hit up a concert sometimes, see some live musicianship etc...One thing that's wierd is getting used to the fact that the music stops between songs. You get used to trance or house or whatever when the vibe never stops then at a concert when their finished a song you're like WTF!? It's a stop start kinda thing that I don't like about concerts anymore.
I totally agree about the timewarp thing though. I went to see Ozzy last year in Hamilton and it really was like stepping back in time about a decade and a half. |

| I wish metallica played some of their newer stuff that isn't as hard. They didn't play any of their 'softer' stuff like: Hero of the Day, No Leaf Clover, Memory Remains, Whiskey in the jar, etc.. |

:stongue: Now I don't feel so bad for having seen Poison, Skid Row and Mötley Crüe last month, lol. (Like you, RJ, I did not purchase the ticket. ;)]
I got the whole "time warp" feeling there, too. The vibe was different, definitely not like that of a trance party, but it wasn't bad. People were having fun dancing and singing, the beer was out in full force, and the showmanship itself coming from the bands was commendable.
It was a unique experience and I'll remember it for another while. I'll have to say though, it took a fair bit of prodding from my more hair metal-inclined friends to get me to actually bust a move. I couldn't, however, resist chanting along to: "I wanna rock and roll all night, and party every day..." :disbelief |

i dont want to bore you all with my stories, but i think how i spent this past summer sanitarium saturday is something that should be told
first, i never buy tickets from ticketmaster, just cause i enjoy the spur-of-the-moment ticket buying feeling...
i bought tickets a few weeks before the show from some random internet person who insisted they were floor tickets he was trying to get rid of
turns out i landed myself a pair of 100 level seats for a discouted price... no problem... it's a sold-out show, i'll just get rid of it on the streets... so i stood around scalping for a few hours... trying to either buy upgrades for cheap or get rid of my tickets alltogether... the scalpers were retarded (i got threatened by one, who pinned me up against the wall for stealing business) and no one was buying...
after a few hours of standing around i finally got someone to give me a ticket upgrade for 10$ *sweet deal*
well... the deal was too sweet, as the tickets were counterfeit... and i found this out after my ticket got scanned and they refused to let me in (ing technology...). So ... at this point i'm 100+$ down... great... so what do i do? turn around and trade my bad tickets for a pair of seats with some guys... great 5 hours later, and i'm back at where i started... with a bunch of crazy guys looking to kill me
so we finally get in, and this was around the middle of limp bizkit (who btw played like a bunch of highschool dropouts)
so i wanna get on floor now... and people are really starting to bunch up close to the floor gates, just trying to inch closer....
i manage to convince about a dozen huge drunk guys that if we all rush security that we'll all get by
of course being drunk and all they thought it was a great idea, and i stood back and watched... as about 12 guards popped outta nowhere (big ******s too) and just creamed the first couple of guys... really let them have it... glad i wasn't in that crowd
i still wanna get onto floor... so i need a wristband to do this... i spend another hour between bizkit and metallica walking around the entrances looking for wristbands that have gone astray...
i see one right by a security d00ds foot.. he's practically standing on it... my buddy walks up to him and momentarily distracts him... while i run up... push him from behind, grab the band... and run the away...
i cut the band in half and used some tape i got from some vendor (to "fix my hat which was broken") and my friend and i both taped half of the same band onto our wrists...
as soon as metallica came out we jet onto the floor, and our bands hardly get looked at...
and if anyone else was there... i was the guy in the striped shirt giving out beatings in the crappy moshpit a few drunk guys tried to start.... weak
as for metallica.... been listening to them for about 12 years (yes, since i was 7)... they put on a pretty decent show... i've seen better though. i dont like this new image they're trying to put on with them looking for pity from the crowd... them and their stand on internet piracy whatever... the bottom line is they know how to put on a rock and roll concert, and thats all that matters... they can cry me a river...
the played too much old stuff (harvester of sorrow, sad but true, wtf? no1 wants to hear this in concert, not even hardcore fans like me), but this doesn't necessarily mean the should have played more new ... people like them for their old stuff, and they respond to that by playing their old stuff... the just overdid it...
i dont even think they played fade to black... sad
but still... i'm a pretty retarded critic.... it was loud... it was long... it hurt at times... and there were hot girls galore... wow... definately the best metallica show i've been to since they rocked up miami in the early 90's...
lets hope metallica keeps doing what they do for years and years to come
good stuff |

:haha::stongue: glog, you're priceless.
I especially like the part about getting tape to... 'fix your hat'. I don't think I could've come up with that. I had a bird named McGuyver, but I never got any of that guy's skills. :p |

I really liked Metallica!
I was forced there, until that point I was anti-metal, but they inspired me to be open-minded about rock. |
