good answer. well this is what i said as to how to define the difference. my question to you is, which techno djs have you listened to? i agree on the idea of being able to appreciate all music but not everyone can, and even if you do you may still have preferences. i prefer techno, for example.

true people do get defensive over genres, because there is a hell of a lot of difference between style. you say trance and techno = electronica.. yes your right, but electronica is a loose term. but electronica is merely a glorified name for dance music.
trance focusses on the euphoric side, overwhelming the body/brain thru uplifting synths, vocals and riff's to give off a pleasant euphoric state, or indeed... a trance like state.
Techno on the other hand, is more of a journey type genre, usually a slightly tougher beat and obscure sounds and samples looped together to create a mind winding journey, and gradually building and building till the music is controlling you.
some would say that techno is more trance like than trance, as it gives off a more of an atmosphere, but trance is the term used for music that gives ones self a feeling of well being in a temporary bliss type thingy.
hope this didnt sound like a load of , but its hard to explain the differences in words, but i think to differences are easily noticable. and before anyone tells me im wrong, i was describing both styles loosly without going into sub-genres :) |
