They already lifted it for people on the Sympatico High Speed & Ultra plans.

I don't really mind sympatico, I mean its not like we pay for our internet anyways. God bless my dad's work :p

No bandwidth cap? Wicked.

And oddly, my connection speed has gone up, from 950kbps download to 1.3mbps :D.

Actually I've noticed that my rogers have gotten a LOT faster than it used to, but still not as fast as when I first got it. It was a 3Mb line. It got cut down to a 1.5, but within the last few months I've consistently been getting approx 200kb/s download. Pretty sweet still.(compared to 350 when I first got it and the 120 cap soon after)

sorry to ruin this for everyone, but in Japan they just got 12Mbs DSL for 21$US a month with no caps and no bs...

yes you read right, 1.2 megabytes/sec downloads

After they removed the cap, my internet stopped working (after it was back up). Then I called them up and asked them what was going on, and they say they don't support routers  and told me to call up linksys.

I then proceded to do some stuff and ended up fixing it myself, but Bell's customer service is horrible. I remeber one time my internet was down for 2 weeks, and I kept calling in for support, and all they did was kept transfering me to 'higher' support staff who told me to call back on a different day. what fools, then eventually it got sorted out but it took way too long.

I disagree. I've been with Bell Sympatico (High Speed Edition) and Cogeco Cable and the latter one has always kept me happy. I've never had connection problems with cable. With Sympatico on the other hand, not always being able to log on and get on the 'net when I so chose to do so was annoying. I find cable quicker, too. Those are my 2 cents. :thepirate

As I recall, Cogeco was one of those companies that Rogers decided not to buy out because it simply wasn't worth their time or money. Their infrastructure (for both connectivity and customer service) is absolutely abominable, and the only reason they're able to stay in business is because they service small areas with relatively low user bases.

Don't get me wrong, cable is a better medium than DSL for sure, and Bell Sympatico doesn't operate their business much better than Cogeco. But I distinctly remember with Cogeco, for about a month (until we cancelled), having the connection "on" for 5 seconds and "off" for 5 minutes for 12 hour periods during most days. I would call the customer service, sit on the phone for 45 minutes waiting, and eventually hang up because I didn't have the bloody time to sit and wait. Then when we cancelled, they refused to give us a credit for the lost service because they didn't have any record of us speaking with a service representative (as if we didn't try!). Apparently they do not bother to track "missed calls", which I know for a fact that Rogers does because I worked in their reporting dept. Cogeco's connectivity improved after @Home went kaput, but their service is still pitiful...

Bell screwed us too, though. My roommate cancelled his account for the summer but they kept billing him for it. He tried over 10 times to call their customer service, but every time, his call was disconnected after about 15 minutes of waiting. So when we went to renew our account (which we probably shouldn't have done, but we weren't aware of all the smaller DSL companies at the time), we demanded a credit, after telling them to look at our bloody bandwidth history and see that the summer bandwidth was an absolute zero because the modem wasn't even hooked up - I think they finally gave us two months credit, even though they owed us four.

Connectivity isn't even the issue - I know it's really, really hard to run an ISP. The worst is when there's a problem on the line itself, and it can take even the most experienced linemen over a week to even find the problem, let alone fix it. My beef is with their customer service policies (i.e. the standard "we don't give a about the" customer service policy).

Damn broadband ISPs... the government needs to start regulating it properly like the phone companies!

Edit: Thought I'd mention, by the way, that some of you seem to be confusing bit caps and bandwidth limits (which is probably because Sympatico uses the wrong term in the first place). Bit caps limit the speed of your uploads/downloads, i.e. 400 kbps on Rogers and 128 kbps on Sympatico; bandwidth limits are a restriction they put on how much you can transfer in a month (i.e. 6 GB or 10 GB). There is a difference, and I'm not really up-to-date on what these companies are doing, but removing the bit cap does not necessarily equate to removing the bandwidth limit.
