Whoever was there to see the little mangled machine play the last set at 5AM would have been amazed! the headphone jack in the mixer breaks so that headphones cant be used at all... so what does Julian do? Mixes the whole in set without headphones as if it aint no big deal, in fact, he was loving it!! he ing mixed better than most people can with headphones!
One word to you Julian... respect!
Sample Gee couldnt believe it.. so what does he do?.. has a crack at it himself, and didnt do to bad.. but Julian is da man!
Put it down on the list as another memorable moment in 5AM history, and a contender for best set.

... and errm..a new contender for funniest / most ed up thing at a 5AM goes to me & Reemo. We were in trouble from the start when Reemo trainwrecked the first mix... & it got progressively worse when i did the same a few mixes later.. but, that wasnt good enough, i had to try & land space shuttle Columbia... the needle skipped across a whole track like it was on ice, no track cued, so a few seconds silence (which in a club sounds like hours), and everyone letting out a roar from the crowd and the chant of "MMAAAANNNNGGGGLED!!!".. now that beats the Miss Mel spewing episode i reckon... the wreckage is still being found strewn all over Room 680..... When i told Sample Gee that was the worse thing that's ever happened when i've been playing, he said "thats nothing, i set fire to the dj console once, and when people threw their drinks on it to try & ut the fire out it blew the mixer and shorted out the whole club!"

.... & lets not even mention the shennanigans in the mangulation cube :nervous:

I'm starting to think that maybe it's not just a coincidence that all this funny / ed up happens???  :tongue2 :tongue2 :eyes: :nervous: :eyespop: :clown: :toothless :toocool:

hahah jules - selecta!!!

thats a friggin impressive thing that was done, and i can remember just sitting round asking myself why it sounded like someone was trying to scratch to make a beat sound better when the scratch was out of beat.... but hey - no earphones makes mixing a fkn tight job

NICE ONE BRUVVAH!!!!
JulesPLees
Thats pretty freakin' impressive man..

The only other person Ive seen do this was Chris Lawrence...by choice~!!!

thanks Albert, appreciate the kindf words mate.It was hard work on friday but because everyone was rocking it made life a hell of a lot easier for me despite the problems that we were having. Not having much luck with the equipment at Room lately. The 5AM before at room the turntable busted on me and this time the mixer headphone connection went bung!!

Sample Gee came up and wanted a mix as well without headphones, think he realised how hard it was after the first mix;) . He wanted to be redeemed with the second mix and we ended up playing vs. for the last 45 closing at 7am with the crowd rocking off !!

thanks everyone for hanging out to close. Big ups to Nick (M) for rocking it hard for me and all the other 5AM rockers that put in a stellar close as well!!

how did you do it?

cut the bass totally from the incoming tune and slightly bring it in so you could hear it?
Ghostface
indeed, that's ing incredible. I can't even get my head around someone mixing without headphones. :disbelief

great work guyz. glad to c the crowd appreciating quality Trance!

i wldve luved to off seen that set. i remember Danny Howells at Two Tribes 2002 on Gold Coast he was beatmatching by listening to the needle on the record instead of his onecup headphonez..

peace :D

Hmm, to do it live is quite a feat!

In the bedroom I find it easier to mix without cans, and you get the track in quicker etc, BUT it sounds like for the first bit!

i dont remember it sounding like , so nice work :)

I was pretty drunk though. Haha.

Were you cueing the incoming by watching level on channel?
Hybrid Junkie
They had the bass on and were kind of scratching the beat, rolling it over a breakdown or the main beat, so basically cueing it with the volume on, but making it fit with the music, then letting it go with the other tracks beat. then normal mix.

awesome work guys, mucho impressed, and we loved that last set!

Stevie J: MMOOORREEEE! ANOTHERR ONNEE!!! :haha:

haha i remember at the vry end i was sitting in the dj booth as jules finishes off that FINAL FINAL track... then people started chanting "1 MORE" again - Jules just turned around and just pleaded with me "no more? :nervous: "

i just sat there and laughed :D

he ran to the bar got two plastic cups and some string and made one of those old school telephones and put one cup near teh neddle of the incoming track and the other cup to his ear...

i tell ya what those cups cut out so much sound and produce a nice balanced bass! =]
