I have an Intel pentium 3 but i voted for the AMD athlon , and next time i buy a computer it won't be equiped with an intel processor

mmmm the athlon is so much nicer than a pIII. well especially from my perspective since i do graphic/web/multimedia design. so havin' an athlon has it's benefits. speed. reliability. sheer power.

but personally, i'd love to get my hands on a g4 titanium.

Athlon for sure... you had co compare intel 4 and athlon, so it would be more objective. Pentium 3 is getting older and older...;)

AMD Athlon all the way!

I got a Thunderbird 900, kicks some serious intel ass. It's faster thna my freinds P3 1GHz system.

I dont know if youre buying just the system or monitor as well with it,if you are or you plan to get it, don't buy trinitron monitor from sony. Get any sony monitor but just not the trinitron.

well, Intel screwed up BIG-Time with P3..and AMD took the lead by far (spec. now with K7 and all)
so I'd always go 4 an AMD processor

Ok ok i'm going to have to bring some facts to the equation here. The athlon has a more powerful floating point then the P4 and the P3. Which means it does very very well in multimedia and things like mp3 encoding and games. It's also running on a 200 (DDR) FSB and now with the c athlons it's up to 266 which thoroughly stomps on the P3's 133 FSB. Heat can be an issue with the higher clock athlons but if you make sure you get a particular stepping they're cooler then the others and overclock particularly well (check it out at www.athlonoc.com)

so they are the speed kings. A 1.4 athlon running with pc2100 DDR ram will best a P4 1.7 rather easily in most apps. As for the stability issue and they're not working with audio progs, well it's all in the chipset. Use an AMD 760 chipset and they'll work flawlessly. Team it with a VIA and u may or may not have probs.

I honestly can't recommend an Intel processor to anyone right now. If you want speed get A 1.4c Athlon. If you are on a budget get a Duron. (both those processors are faster then Intels AND cheaper)

Any questions just ask. I am a Technician lol :p

I look forward to seeing what Clawhammer will do. thats AMD's 64 bit processor that will be released in about a year :D

Pentium all the way.
Had an Athlon but to be honest, it sucked.
It gets really warm and to have a fan that doesnt sound like a jet engine
you have to spend lots of money on that which you could spend on
more memory or whatever.

The "best" fan for my Athlon that I wanted to get costed about 80$
excluding shipping, thats not tolerable.
And 60+ degrees celcius under load is not very pleasant.

My new P4 keeps a temperature of 33,5 degrees celcius under heavy load
and then I havent even applied the Arctic Silverpaste and its a
boxed fan so its no fancy stuff either.

And besides, the fan on an Athlon is a bitch to fasten, not in a Pentium.
I have seen some recent tests that shows that the competition between
AMD and Intel is decreasing, they are pretty much alike right now.

I'd go with AMD..heard better stuff about it..
