PAUL VAN DYK: [conversation already in progress] And...I also witnessed something which I was getting really crazy about, the fact that one of the security guards [at Roxy-NYC in February], when I had to go to the toilet, really pushed someone else so hard so he fell over a table...
EMILY TAN: To get him out of your way?
PVD: ...and I actually went back...yeah, and it’s like, ya know you can do something like this [clearing the way] rather nicely. So, I made a big big issue out of it. So just people, I mean ya know, I don’t wanna sort of press anything here, but I just wanna make people aware that I realise stuff like this, and that we’re trying to make things better.
TAN: That you care.
PVD: Yeah, that I care, and we’re trying to make things better. And they promised me to have a completely exchanged security company and that they have a completely in-charge, friendly security. I mean, I’m not the promoter, I’m not the club owner, either. I’m basically just the DJ, and I’m really stretching my little authorities I have very far already, compared to a lot of other things, but I’m really...
TAN: You care.
PVD: I totally care, and I don’t want anyone sort of pushed over by some freak security guy for whatever reason! I mean, people are there, they paid to get in, they paid to have a good time and basically, this is what some of the security guys at Roxy totally forgot: that they are there to make sure these people are safe. They’re not there to make me feeling better, they’re there to make them [the clubbers] feeling better! And this is what they ing should be there for, and they were not, [that] time at Roxy. And it was that close that I actually was calling anything [the show] off at Roxy. And then they...finally started to get in negotiations in terms of saying ‘we have to change something here, very drastically’.
TAN: It’s really great that an artist of your stature goes so much out-of-his-way to make sure his fans are treated properly.
PVD: If I hear about this stuff, I try to make it better the next time, of course, and that’s one thing. The other thing is, I was witness [to] that. I was just like, “hey!” I screamed at the security guy and helped the other guy up. I think that people probably know that it has nothing to do with me, and I don’t think that it would reflect [badly] on me. I think it’s just like, really really a bad thing in general. You should just not do that! Security person is there to make sure everyone there is secure, and not to harm anyone. This is important to me, that the people in the club are treated properly.

TAN: It’s great that you’re playing [New York’s] Central Park SummerStage on August 28th.
PVD: I’m definitely looking forward to it. I heard lots of great things about those events in the summer at Central Park, so it’s a good opportunity to play somewhere open-air in New York.

yup, that's Paul. recurring theme in all his statements:
| quote: | | I mean, people are there, they paid to get in, they paid to have a good time |
Shows he cares, shows he's a professional, shows he's got the right attitude about his job and certainly shows he doesn't indulge in any kind of "I'm a star" antics.
