it seems like you get different opinions on every subject
-Oakey on MTV
-BT producing for N*SYNC
-Sandstorm, the Launch, ATB, etc becoming "pop"
what do you think? do you like it more low key and not known by everyone, or do you think this is good for the scene
personally i wouldnt like to see everyone in the states begin to like our music......
but the other side of the coin is that almost all of us agree that Europe is the place to be for trance, progressive, whatever genre you like......most of what we listen to came from overseas......most people who have been there would agree that, as a whole, the club and party scene is "better" over there......
but at the same time, in Europe, the music and the scence is completely mainstream.....its everywhere.....you hear in every kind of store, shop, etc ( i heard trancey tunes in a ladies linen/toiletries/kitchen supply store as well as in the grocery store).....clubs are way more popular and way more abundant......DJ's are the same kind of celebrities as our pop music artists....
two differnt extremes in terms of general widespread popularity
which is better? |

i dunno i have mixed feelings on this. i must say that when this music was still underground, you get that feeling that you are like an individual or you are much more unique than the others because only you listen to this stuff.
on the other hand, i also like this music to get some recognition because this music just kicks some major ass. i have always tried to promote this music to my other friends as well. as the way it seems though with all that commercial going on, its just too fast for us to get used to all the rapid changes to our music and going mainstream. almost to the point that its almost like ing pop, which sucks , where tunes get played and played and played till its ing wasted.
i dunno. in the end i just love the music. as long as the quality of trance is still good. then i'm all for it. |

| well I just like trance for what it is,I don't care that a much larger crowd is listening to trance, ass long as it doesn't effects the quality(but that's up to the producers and dj's) |

| i really don't care whether it goes mainstream or not, just as long as the music continues to evolve... |

personally I would want to keep the scene as underground as possible.
We all agree that House music has gone a bit ova the underground line..
but most of it,, the GOOD stuff, is still underground and as part of this society, let's work to keep it that way.

| Well, in europe people are different, they are alot more matured then here in the states, here they abuse everything, so if there is mainstream, people aprecaitte it differently, while here in the states, you see ghettos listening to trance not because they like it, but because they are following a trend or because they love smoking the weed with the music.... At the same time, I want to be able to see the trance videos, and listen to trance on radio instead of tha crap played, leave all those pop trance artist for the mainstream ( wich many I like ), the followers will find their way to the underground if they like the music.. so dont worry.. there will always be an underground ;) . |

I live in France, ok, that's already not a good example because trance is really not recognized in this country of , but here and in some other countries i've been to (Italy, Belgium, Germany), i really don't hear trance and techno everywhere !
Well, except the very commercial crap and sometimes overplayed good stuff (Yves Deruyter, Mauro Picotto) on radios around
Over here (once again, i can't relate for whole Europe), techno is just good "to dance on", "to trip on", but not to listen to it all day like us TAs
What sucks is when you're a TA and that you claim you hate commercial crap then people don't make the difference when there's a real good song being played.
Example : you say "i hate vengaboys and alice deejay, bull" and then some non-TA hears Push - Universal Nation on radio and he says to you : "what? you like that song? i thought you hated techno/trance songs radios since they're all commercial crap !"
you imagine how you feel.... |

Man I so want the Vancouver trance scene to get more mainstream then it already is.
Mainstream = more people listening = more money for promoters = BETTER HEADLINING DJ'S!!!! |

| I would rather it stay quiet. Now the big trend is to shut down everything that is electronic music because of the belief that its "evil". If only the scence stays controlled and does not get too big then it wouldn't make such a stink with the authorities. Money for the producers is important too, but most people now don't even buy the music they just download it. As for going to shows, well, who really wants all these drugged up people spoiling the party? |
