why do they keep trying to get it big here, they just don't understand most of us dont care (including me), there are already too many pro sports here

so the world can have soccer, as long as I have football I'm happy :)

Fine example of real tension and real hatred. Its matches like this, that you'd be scared to be in the stadium, yet would be eager watch it at the same time. If you'd come to this match, you'd have 'no surrender to the IRA' or 'Field of Athenry' ringing in ya ears. I dont think anyone would dare to wear a celtic or rangers shirt in the Glasgow public.

from what i read of that it seemed that he wasnt trying to slag anyone off so give the guy a break!

ita true its got to be one of the best games ever! the atmosphere is unbelievable! must be a great game for a nuetral to watch no matter the outcome! but as im from scotland theres only 1 team i want to win during these games even if they are the so called "meaningless" end of season games!

cmon the hoops :D

id like you check any other clubs forums, and im sure youll find the same type of people there.

Exactly my point.....

There are idiots attached to every club...don't pick out the Old Firm for particular attention. I highlighted the Liverpool forume becuase I can speak from experience and it's relative to you, since you are the one who brought up the Old Firm.

its football not soccer, it gets its name from:

foot = you kick with this

and

ball = round object struck by the aforementioned *foot

foot + ball = football

Sorry...too complicated for our American friends.

American rational:

Soccer:
Socc....something you wear on your foot
err.....American answer to hard questions

i.e. Soccer = Football

(American) Football:
Foot....Something they don't use (except the kicker)
Ball....What they use is very vaguely similar to one

i.e Football

To sum up. Americans stole the name Football, they stole the idea of the telephone, they stole their land from the natives

yes good to know euros can always find a way to bash america, even in a sports forum

and you guys should be pretty proud to beat the US at a spot that 95% of this country could give a about

so when you beat us at basketball, baseball, football, any track n' field event, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, golf, tennis, and probably alot of sports I've never even heard of then come and brag
big dave
if youve never heard of football why are you in this thread?!

The word "soccer" originated in England in the late 19th century I believe but never caught on. It comes from "Asocciation football". Americans didn't even invent the word soccer, the game they played was a variation on the old "rugger" (now Rugby). Keeping the traditional British name "football" they latched onto the name "soccer" for the football played with the foot. Unlike other variations of the game, football ("soccer") became popular all over the world, and as far as I know virtually everyone outside North America (and Australia?) calls it football/futebol/fussball etc.

Who gives a flyin about anything else when there's only one #1 religion on this planet and it's FOOTBALL!

95% of Yanks don't give a about footy? RUBBISH! The MLS was rated in the TOP 4 most popular and watched leagues in the US, so you can run for now but you can't hide. The utter invasion is not that far away.

PLANET FOOTBALL!

you are just making my point, who cares about soccer, I sure as hell dont

and for MLS being the #4 sport I HIGHLY doubt it, I'd like to see some facts to back that statment up, because from LIVING here and being a pretty big sports fan, I can see that mls scores dont even get on espn (not even on the little ticker down at the bottom!), and the only time a game is on tv is during the summer when there are no other sports playing, really the only time there is any interest in soccer here is during the world cup, but thats a fluke, kinda like the olympics (nobody cares about most of the olympic sports except during the olympics)
