question about rotary mixer...

hi!
before you begin... i had used the search button, but couldn't find the answer to a question that i have for some time.

how do i operate a rotary mixers - the mixers i want to know about are:
a&h v6.
rane 2016.

my question is: i have a normal linear mixer (vestax pcv 175) at my home and when i mix i use the eq (low, mid, high) + gain + level control (the fader itself). how doe's the equing is made using a rotary mixer? cause i looked in a&h website and saw that the v6 rotary
and rane's site and saw there isn't eq for each channel, there is a master eq control. how doesn't the frequencies of each track clash loudly with each other in the mix ????
how the mix is being done on this type of mixers from the eq's side???
i'm asking this cause i saw some places having rotary mixers and i haven't used one yet - it is really interesting.

hope i got myself clear on this one.
thanks.
p.s: sorry for any kind english mistakes...

in the case of the rane 2016, you use another seperate unit for EQing, the XP-2016

I assume you'd do a similar thing with the A & H.
DjJade
with rotary mixers you mix with the filters. so like if you mix in the treble first with the bass down etc then you use a high pass filter and gradually filter in the rest of the frequencies. some may not thing its enough but for pure progressive and trance mixing you can do alot with filters especially when playing the the frequency phases

are there any resonably priced rotary mixers? cuz there all in the thousands, and im fed up wit sliders

if u want the best just save up your money for rane or a and h...

sorry but cheap things = low quality.

hey john smith. i know rane has an expander (xp2016) but i meant to ask how do you get along without it and DjJade just gave me my answer...

you talked about an expander for a&h but i can't see any of it in their website, do they really have an expander???
fishfish
djJade i checked up again and noticed there is no high pass filter in the rane mixer. how do you make your previously mentioned steps on that mixer???
JohnSmith
yeah, that's what i was thinking too.

I guess the only answer is, you need SOMETHING to go between your decks and the mixer (or i supppose between the mixer and rest of signal chain either way would work)

be it a filter unit, or an expander whatever. But if it went before the mixer(the only way you'd be able to hear changes in the headphones) then it would need phono preamps.

hmm.. I know that you can get a rotary knob replacement kit for DJM3000, and maybe 500,600 too.

failing that, just mix with your gains instead of the levels, it's the same thing!
DjJade
i guess you could always get eqkillers but that kinda cancels out the sound quality. i donno much about the rane...i know that there is that separate eq..i guess thats the only way to go besides another external eq liek the eqkillers

What type of app were you going to be using the rotary for>? Bedroom or what exactly, cause if its not big PA style djing, it may not benifit you getting something so massive. as there are other rane and allen heath mixers built with same quality and still offer eqs on each channel.
These rotary, offer many additional features for use with pro audio systems and offer incredible expansion.

fishfish
the usage i'm planing is bedroom usage.
and i would like to get some quality stereo system to enojy it,
every thing on its time...

FOr that type of use an Allen Heath Xone 64 or 32 - excellent sound quality with lots of features.
Or Pioneer DJM600 -good value for what you get (eqs on each channel, effects processor built in, cue split)..excellent for bedroom use, good sound quality
Or Rane M8z- good for bedroom use.. excellent sound quality - eqs on each channel, good value i guess.lol-- this is what i use.
Very clean sound
