The Riviera
it's even open later than Eleven50 isn't it? I very much prefer it over Eleven50, if only because the DJ isn't sitting 50 feet up in the air away from the audience... and I KNOW Armin likes to be close to the audience. Does the term "people's DJ" ring a bell? it would if you're an Armin fan ;) He even comes down INTO the audience and dances with the crowd when he's at Glow in DC (and I've heard about him doing it in Israel and elsewhere)

Personally i think the riv is to small for Armin or Ferry on a weekend night. The capacity is less then eleven50's. Plus the booth at the riviera is just as far away from the crowd as the booth that we use at eleven50. We still use Riviera on certainf ridays though, we have acosta back there with another guest to be announced on friday october 24th.

Also the booth that we use for the larger shows at e50 is not that far way from the crowd at all. We do not use the booth on the balcony. We designed an entirely diffrent booth that we used for Sasha, Digweed and Tiesto now. If you were at the last tiesto show you will know the booth i am talking about and it's pretty much the same distance from the crowd as the riviera.

I know it's huge but then again we ARE talking about Armin (and Ferry), 2 of the biggest DJs in the world.. and I seem to recall Liquified throwing parties there before? maybe not

The question is, is it to big? The capacity at the delkalb atlanta center is 2500. When was the last party in Atlanta that you actually saw more then 1500 people? It just doesn't happen to often anymore. Plus its outside the city and it has been proven time and time again in the past couple of years that events outside the city don't get the attendance deserved. I would hate to put someone like Armin or Ferry into a venue that was too big and it only be half full.

Blu is the prime venue, it has an amazing custom eaw avalon system in one room and a customized turbo sound in the other room. It has an amazing lighting rig, plenty of couches and nice decor, a great staff plus once the bar is finsihed it will have a full bar and be able to stay open as late as they want and still do 18 and over on fridays. (saturdays is their big night for their crowd)

yeah I have heard about Blu and I'm looking forward to it being a viable option.

basically knew you were going to say all that about the venues... they aren't MY venues so i'm not going to sit here and defend them all day, but I was at the last Tiesto show at Eleven50 and I'm gonna have to call you on that booth thing. At the riviera I reached up and shook John 00 Fleming's hand in the booth from the floor, it can't be more than 8 or 9 feet up, and at Eleven50 Tiesto was like... at least 15 or more feet up.. I can dunk a basketball and it was WAY higher than a bball goal.. and that was only from the raised floor. from the lower floor it felt more like 30... far enough to make at least everybody I knew (20+ people) feel "detached" from the dj. also heard the same thing (completely unsolicited) from multiple people up on the balcony... that's why they were up there because the main floor was chaos, packed WAY too tight so the balcony was nice. Now though the balc is going to be vip right? anyway Don't know about Sasha and Diggers cuz I'm not into them. :)

Dekalb center.. is it too big? I saw Oakenfold and PVD both pack it out to capacity and Armin is WAY better than both of them. combined. ;) The people in Atlanta who know Armin are probably like me, don't care where he spins they'd go see him spin a cardboard box on a streetcorner if they had to :) all depends on how hard you promote it I guess :) but your points are valid and besides it's your party dude. The point I was trying to make was made 2 pages ago :D you just asked a question and those I knew off the top of my head.

you know what, while we're talking... I was brainstorming and I'm curious your thoughts on this... you're so busy looking for an 18+ venue so kids can come, but some of us don't LIKE the 18-21 methhead candykids so if the event is on a weekend and it's a 21+ party, first off I know plenty of ppl who would welcome that. Now take Eleven50 for example but it could be any club... the club's going to pack to capacity anyway because it's a weekend night. some of us would be there purely because of Armin, and the rest would just be there to be there. You still sell the same number of tickets right? and possibly even make MORE money because you're selling tix at the door for 20 or whatever a pop instead of $10 presale.
I don't claim to know a thing about being a successful promoter so seriously.. I'm just asking cuz there's probably a reason that wouldn't work that I just don't know.

Its 15 feet from the actual floor to the booth at eleven50. This know for fact. Then the stage is 3.5 feet off the floor and the stage extends to the bottom of the booth. So its basically 12.5 feet feet. Which isn't really that high. Sasha, Digweed and Tiesto all loved the booth, the layout of the booth, the view of the entire crowd from the booth and so on.

1st Oakenfold is oakenfold. He packs out places all the time. He has a huge crossover crowd that most dj's don't. But i will say i would not take the risk of bringing him to the Dekalb Atlanta Center right now.

2nd PVD was NOT packed out to capacity, this i know for a fact. Wasn't even close. I did the show so i should know. It was October 11th 2001, Just 1 month after September 11th. Attendance was very low.

We have a number of 21 and up venues that we use for all kinds of music. But a few problems with what you are speaking of, the 21+ that are usually packing these clubs out already will not pay the $15 and $20 door covers at any club in atlanta on a friday and saturday. They get into these places for free every friday and saturday because the club makes up for it on the bar. Thats where the real money is for the clubs. When they hear it is $15 to get in they walk and go across the street one of the other umpteen clubs in midtown. So you are losing a core base of the crowd for events that involve trance with not being able to do 18 and over shows. Plus with another thing on weekday shows, especially during the school year you will find that the crowds are usally a bit older then weekend shows. plus its the true heads that come out to weekday one off's.

The he is. PvD is more proficient technically than Armin by a long shot. Armin has no flow in his sets. Nor does he do many (if any) mixing / efx tricks.
E-vangelist
yeah what can I say about Oakenfold :clown: people in this country are all about names, not actual talent.

PVD I was a little ed up I guess it looked more full than it was... from down in the middle of the crowd it sure seemed packed :)

that makes sense. like I said, I'm not the professional promoter. I'm just one of the scores of regular working-class people for whom it's much more difficult all-around to make a weekday show than a weekend show. But I guess that's what I get for living in this town

sorry for hijacking your thread.. I notice it's basically been all us for 3 pages and I hope I didn't "scare" anybody off or keep them from posting because we looked like we were arguing or whatever. If you want to make a new thread I promise I won't post in it. Or just have Swamper nuke everything after page 1 ;)

I am REALLY glad Armin is finally coming to Atlanta and I hope it's an awesome show, for you and for him. I know it will be for us fans.
Peace

oh and I'm not even going to touch the PVD vs. Armin debate, I see it every week in Armin's chat room during ASOT and I'm sick to death of it :wtf:
