well it looks as if I am resurrecting a old, if not dead, thread...
got my Shine today, signed and numbered and its quite excellent!
you could describe it as *typical* max, but that has hardly been a bad thing: driving beats, excellent mixing, and the track selection is quite good. a bit of a misstep on the Marc O'Toole track, as it is MOT (not quite my cup of tea) - but from here it goes off in fantastic max style. some melodies, without being melody heavy - but those he chooses are most excellent!
some older songs, but i wont ever turn down a Sander track or JXL - Tennis

| It is a truly great mix CD - I am just about fed up with boring progressive stuff so some trance-tinged energy is good news from Max! Check out the Red & Blue track too - Quintos - killer bass-line! |

In Canada it looks like it's already released. Taken from Amazon :
1. Piece Process Solar Myth
2. Marc OToole Its Our Future
3. Red and Blue Quintos (Nowhere Mix)
4. Ultravision Inner Earth
5. Stephane Malca Revolution
6. Piece Process New Driver
7. Sander Kleinenberg Buenos Aires
8. Madoka Altered
9. Madoka Afterburner
10. Medway Trauma (Inkfish Remix)
11. Junkie XL Tennis
Looks like a pretty tasty tracklist, however I just ordered Balance005 and the new Sandra Collins Perfecto compliation so THERE IS NO MORE MONEYS TO BE SPENT. :~( |

wow the main review on amazon.ca is pretty harsh. that dude is obviously not a fan, and quite snooty:

Sample Max Graham's mix CD Shine on the Internet or in the shops and there's a good chance you'll let your attention span get the better of you and move on. From the "Blue Monday"-lite groove of "Solar Myth" to the noodling "Quintos," Shine has a laborious start. It's doubly frustrating when you hear all the inspired choices and clean mixing that come after it. Graham spins the tech and progressive side of house and he sure likes to let a tune play the whole way through -- intro, outro, everything. It works fine for the latter part of the CD (although tightening it up would have helped) and Junkie XL's final track is a corker. It's enough to make you think you should return to the mix to see if you're missing something. Classic case of too little, too late. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide |

| Tracklist looks descent, even though some of the tunes are pretty old. |

mm i think that transport encompassed his sets better. with the build up et al - but even that left out his housier side.
i think that this CD doesnt have a Hybrid High Life, or Kittens - but it doesnt have to. this is his first lable cd and he is representing himself and productions from Shine.
plus its Max when he is pounding, and I can never complain about that
