To spin a track from an album in ur set? like spin the track straight off the album using a cd deck. is this legal?
SuperFarStucker
i was never aware vinyl was granted special performance rights so AFAIK it would be completely legal, however IANAL (...not a lawyer) so it's best not to take my advice on the issue with much weight. :thepirate :clown:

I believe it's as legal as playing an ordinary vinyl :p Are the laws different? :conf:

Good question... I believe it is, since you have legally purchased the album. There is the thing about prohibition of any play in public without permission from the owner of the copyrights (The lable) but that applies to singles too.
Some of the pro DJs lying around here could give you a more reassuring word I guess

hrm yeh, its just as legal as playing a vinyl.

That said, you do not have the right to play either CD or vinyl in public anyway.

If you want to use track on a mix cd then your gonna have to pay licensing fees to the record companies.

If you want to play music in a club or bar, the place has to play a fee to someone or another (we have to pay it here, so ill check who the money goes to tommorow).

(This applies to the UK only of course).

Works the same way over here in Israel...

Night clubs usually have an option of buying a license to play music , kinda like a liquor license and then nobody can touch you , you can play any vinyl or cd you want , but it's not cheap . Usually when you dj , you are treated as a music promoter so you shouldn't get into trouble unless you try selling your mix cds , then it's a different story .

I'm glad that you pointed that out since I have been wondering about this for a while now...I noticed one day that it says that on most of my Vinyl's "Public Performance Of This Record Prohibited" To me, that basicly means it's illeagal to play the record at a Club or something? Could you please explain more about this to me...I'm mainly wondering about...Well here's an example:

If I got booked to play at a Club or a Rave, is it ileagal to play one of those records that says "Public Performance Of This Record Prohibited"? I figured it's allright since I noticed that a lot of people do this anyways...But is it really ileagal and people do it anyway and no one gets caught or something?

Or is it just ileagal to put one of those tracks on a CD or play @ A live radio station without the company's permission? Is that what it means? Thanks in advance -

And Sorry if I make no sence =/

first off, it's extremely unlikely theyd ever act upon it!

The reason is says you cant play it publicly is they don't want people making money off of the track in anyway. They wont prosicute DJ's or alike, its simply an escape route for them incase such an incident arises.

seriously they just dont want some busker, playin gout a ghetto blaster while holding his hand out. take my word for it.

i can ask a few of my friends for their rc's official definition of why, and when they are likely to enforce it etc.
dj_moonshine
most of my cd's are albums, and there are some mix cd's (for eg. clubbers guide to ibiza, etc.). now i was wondering if its illegal to play them in public.
