Aria's Advanced 2003 with Sasha 30/08/03

well....just waiting for someone to post their comments....but since everyone who went last night is apparently preparing for Picotto (by sleeping), I figure I should make a few comments

Got to the club at 2:30....friends and I got straight in to the club with the tickets in hand....although there were prolly 50 to 70 people outside in line at that time.....even when we got in, the club was jumping....XL was throwing down a great set....very good proggish technoish pumping beats....my first time seeing him ever and I liked what I saw....and he is also a lot smaller than i expected...from pictures I saw, i was expecting a 450 lb giant...but he weighed in at no more than 279 i think ;)

Sasha hit the decks later than expected....5:10 am or so....played a 3 hour set that was pure bliss to this TA's ears.....wow...what track selection....some in the prog community have been complaining that he is playing the same set all summer....but this set had no more than 7 or so tracks that I have heard from him before..everythig else seemed very fresh...and amazingly energetic and melodious at the same time....great set.....better than the one he dropped last october IMO

Aria was great....great visuals early in the night....long excerpts from the movie Crash entertained many people....temperature was great....not too hot....

crowd was good....there were many guys....but enough girls to save this from being a sausage fest...

complaints: VIP area....Aria made the area behind the DJ booth a VIP area....this sucked ass cuz some people were getting tru without difficulties....others were being given a hard time.....but at least if you gave the bouncers a good excuse, they would let u in...even if u did not have the special bracelet

Lighting...the lighting at aria is amazing...if only the person controlling it knew what they were doing....the would turn on the powerful strobe lights many times in the night...but they would blind everybody cuz it would flash once then turn off....if the dude only let the thing actually strobe, things would be much better...it would allow your pupils to accomodate to the light intensity. the guy also does not make use of the floor lights enough....and did not have the lights come down from the ceiling for most of the night....

all told....amazing night...for those of u going to see Sasha in Toronto...get ready for an amazing set......and to those in ottawa...i shall see u Monday hopefully

props go out to Zing for getting me into the VIP area the first time...and to Taha, Mastercongo....although i did not see Taha for very long....not sure where he went off to. Malek...nice seeing u again....and Morsy...good to finally meet u man...It was good to see you on the dance floor.....once my friends left to go back to the hotel, it was great to see a friendly face in the crowd :)

I introduced Aria to two of my friends last nite, and we all had a blast.

Got in the club around 1:30, it was pretty empty, but it got packed soon enough.

XL played a very good opening set, though at the end I wanted to see Sasha come on.
What's the lenny Kravitz remix he played at the end ?
That got the crowd going !!!

Sasha was amazing, I loved his selection, even though I only recognized one song, the new James Holden.
I only stayed for two hrs but enjoyed every minute of it.

The new airconditioning, since I hadn't been there since Tiesto, is amazing, I always had air to breathe, it was great.

The visuals on the other hand were kinda bad, even though there was sensual scenes, the parts of the movie crash that were played were rather boring.

I saw Taha, Mazen, and Malek, but they were all in the back of the dj booth, and ya, they wouldn't let me go there.

Anywho, great night. Hope to come back soon.

last night was a great party. my night started with my frosh taking me to see shawn desman at the dome. ewww. left when desman came on, had enough mc mario and decided my night wasnt complete without a good party to accomadate for the cheese i experienced.

so i went down to aria...
sasha was better than expected, he kept me dancing the whole set. first night as a montreal TA, coming from the toronto area. thats enough of a review for me, im dead.

oh ya, i dont remember any sasha encore and nic b left the crowd begging for more and those security guards were being s about it. one more song for the cheering crowd that wouldnt stop until the cords were unplugged? no they say. bureaucrates...

ps. does anyone remember any of the tracks? was it just me or did sasha play motorola?

James Holden - a break in the cloud ( ?? remix)
Freeland's remix of 'Teen Spirit' was played

an excellent set by Sasha, it was one of the best 3 hours in a long time. Too bad he didn't stay longer, oh well.

Sorry guys for not being to hang around, I was "stuck" in the booth, Sasha doesn't like people moving around him. So coming out and saying hi was out of the question becase I would loose my place :(

anyways, i have some amazing footage, that rented camera does wonders!!

by the way, some TA came and said hi when I was in the booth, he made the TA letters with his hands but i didn't hear his name :(

see ya guys tonigth :D

wonderful wonderful warm up set by XL , what a great track selection i couldn't believe myself and i'm still amazed ... XL got my respect now , i hope all his sets are like this !!

i left after 30 minutes of Sasha , the first track he dropped was out of this world , i hope someone will ID it , the other 25 minutes were just another "cheesy proggy trance" moments , didn't like it ...

i was mostly tired this week-end , lots of problems and stuff , i couldn't stay longer , sorry for sneaking out while some of you went dancing and sorry for not making it to Picotto :(

p.s.: pre-aria shawarma was nice , lots of LOLs ;)

hahaha i got it on tape, i am gonna listen to it and maybe post it :P
