Hey, I want to get into scratch turntablism, and am shopping around for a quality pair of decks. I was thinking of buying the Stanton Spin Cycle Pack, but somebody informed me that the torque is so hopeless that you can't do on it. That true? Or could somebody tell me a good set around the same price, or any other advice you could give me? Thanks in advance

I would advise against buying anything in a pack, especially those beginner or entry level packs... the mixer they throw in is usually crap and lacking in functionality you will want later.
The problem with scratching is you need high torque decks to do it, other wise the platter will stop every time you touch the record. If you have the money get some STR8-100's. 1200s are good decks and have the torque but they have curved tone arms and straight is better for scratching.
Make sure you get a mixer that is good for scratching too... for the price you really cant go past the behringer vmx-200, or vmx-300 for a bit more. |

STR8-100's are very good if you're going for scratching. If money is no problem, get the STR8-150. They have alot more torque.
Also, make sure you get special scratch needles. I suggest the ortofon Scratch

| Also the vestax PDX-2000 are great for scratching, as they have the straight tonearm and good torque. I'm not quite sure, but they're about in the same price range as the Stantons mentioned above. |

Forget stantons, Vestex, if you can't afford Technics, your only other choice should only be Numark TTX1s. They are great for scratching and come with both a straight and S shaped arms, plus the pitch adjustment and control panels are switcheable making them a very nice and easy to use in a battle style set up.
Cheers... |

vestax pdx-2000's i hear are great for scratching.
i also hear the numark ttx1's are good too.
make sure you get some good scratch needles also.
if you seriously want to get into scratcing/turntableism, i'd start checking some hip hop forum boards.
you didn't elaborate much into what you want to spin, but normally the scratching/turtableism goes along with hip/hop stuff so check into those places. |

Dont listen to this idiot, stantons are as good if not better than any turntable vestax make (which by the way are more expensive than technics for the models that are any good). And as i said above, technics are great decks but not as well suited to scratching because of the s tone arm. |

Watch your mouth kid, ive been working in sound production for 10 years, concert and studio, and in that time ive setup, used and repaired practially every kind of professional audio equipment from most manufacturers in the industry. So Id be VERY careful where you go waving your 'i work in a pro audio store' penis around becaue you might have to back up what you way with actual facts.
I called you an idiot because im sick of every wannabe dj spewing thier personal opinions like its fact. If i had a dollar for every time some idiot said 'technics are the only decks worth buying' and when i asked him why the only thing they would come up with was 'theyre the industry standard', id be a ing millionaire. You think you know so much, fine smartarse. You told this guy to forget stanton or vestax (not vestex, you should know better if you work in a pro audio store), but you didnt offer any reason as to WHY he should.
Can you give me one good reason why? And youll have to do better than sprouting some technics-nazi about how everyone who knows anything uses technics. Both Vestax and Stanton's competing level turntables have the same if not more torque and loads of functionality that technics stubbornly refuses to include in any of their models. The only reason 1200s are the industry standard is because theyre practically indestructible, but I've gigged with str8-100's and pdx2000's and they are quite sturdy and durable as well.
Then you come out with 'if you cant afford technics buy a ttx1', which is a stupid thing to say considering the ttx1 and the 1200 are practally the same price. I would have expected you to know that if you work in a pro audio store.
So mr ing know it all, step up and show us all how much you know. Or maybe you should just shut up before you embarass yourself. |
