insecure? im graduating with a BS in MIS/IT and have yet to find a job. This has nothing to do with insecurity, it has to do with investment. its easy to spend the money now anyone can do that, but me personally, i aint just everyone else, i'd like to think of myself as unique so yea i'd put the money away *incase* something ever happened later in life. people who spend their money as soon as possible are so caught up in the immediate gratification...patient is a virtue guys....and besides what will 166K buy u right now? fame and fortune? think not...probably find urself buying u dont even really need...im just happy with what i got right now..thats all =)

Yeah, that's VERY unique indeed.

Anyways, back to your question. What could 166k buy me right now? Are you for real? Is your personality really that dull that you couldn't come up with anything? I mean, dude, here's your chance to do anything you can imagine, and do it WHILE YOU ARE STILL YOUNG! Go see the ing world, travel, get out of NYC while you still can. You're not spending your earned money, so why get yourself attached to it? Someone has given you cash to enjoy life, to do what you can with it, and you choose the option of putting it away and investing.

:o :o !!

I'd save most of it as well. Wisely invested money = more money. More money = more enjoyment. No need to be wasteful and stupid about it. You can still reap plenty of enjoyment if you spend wisely. Don't "enjoy life" like this guy:

i know this is conservative, but i'd put 80% of it away somewhere where it can gain interest for like 40 years so you can retire early in style.

Plan.

take $16.000, put the other $150.000 on a savingsaccount, you might need those 150 grant in the future, don't go spending it all at once

Yup, there's the plan. Never know what the future will throw at you...

Or just send some to me so I can afford my rent. ;)

I'm with most people here...PUT IT AWAY...INVEST IT.....ALL OF IT....i wouldn't keep a dime of it...i would have my attorny send it directly to my financial advisor...

This way i could retire at 40 after that 166 thousand compounds in the market bringing well over 5-6 million ....

If a person at the age of 21 puts away JUST 100 each month towards retirement they can end up with 1.2 million at 65...imagine 166 thousand....

Unless you want to be one of those older people who have to work in Burger King to make money because their pention was all bull anyway....i don't care who you are or what you CLAIM to be in the future...fact remains that the majority of people at the age of 55-65 are either dead or dead broke...this is a fact....except for the smart ones who plan YOUNG....i personally have put $200 away each month since i was 18...granted i miss out on some fun now but hey i know i will be able to retire at around 50 and not have to work another job and live very very well.....

pfft, you're comparing 166k with 20 mil... that guy was stupid, but blowing 166k when you're in your early twenties is the wisest thing you can do...

"oooh, 166k, PUT IT AWAY!!", gimme a break, you'll make that money back easy
