I feel the pain of you guys who have just shelled out big $ for CDJ1000s, etc. - but I've noticed a trend - for products to remain at the top of their class for a increasingly shorter period of time.

Sure, some items will always maintain a somewhat mythical status, like the Shelby Cobra, Porsche 959, Technics 1200, the original Macintosh.... but the fact is that the reign of superiority these things enjoy is getting shorter and shorter as technology progresses.

The CDJ1000 was the bomb, then the Denon with the rotating platter showed up soon after... then the CDJ1000MK2.... Next it will be the Technics CD deck, then probably another Pioneer with the rotating platter & DVD capability. As the digital medium matures, I think we're gonna see a lot of products come & go in a relatively short period of time, till we reach a point like we did with the turntable - when was the last major technological breakthrough that impacted the way turntables were designed, manufactured, or used? Been a while... but when it was young, the improvements were fast & furious...better cartridges, suspensions, drive mechanisms, tangential tracking, etc...

Anyway, I feel your pain - unless you have a healthy cash flow to keep up with the latest toys, whatever you buy now (CD-wise) will likely be lackluster (compared to the latest & greatest) sooner rather than later.

Just my friday night rant before heading out... and so as not to derail the thread.... somebody post pics & more info on Sunday when these puppies are officially revealed!!

yep SACD would rock. so would DVD-A.

good post above Dzokayi, and i agree for the most part, but this deck is different it's TECHNICS.

I think they will become the new standard for CD Djing. sure the others will emulate, change, mutate, but these are gonna be THE CD players to own, just like 1200s are THE turntable to own.

whatever.... these cd decks look cool, and i'm sure that they are probably really nice but aside from the technics motor and large plater what do they do that is so ground breaking? 3K for this thing is absolutely retarded (no offense to retarded people). if anything, it seems like these decks are emulating denons that are emulating pioneers.... playing different formats is cool and i think thats its good to see evolution in technology but i am not exactly sporting wood over these decks, esp at 3K ea.

those look beatiful :eyes:

The release date has come & gone. I still haven't seen any more info on these babies.
Breeze
She looks sexy but for 3k shes gotta be a gold digger.

VINYL FOREVER.

What does this offer for $3000.00 that the Pioneer or Denon's don't. For that pricetag I could buy 2 cdj1000's or S5000's and have over $1000 left for a mixer. There is no way the technics can be that much better.

It's all about the name and the hype because it's technics. Pioneer and Denon's products probably have most of the functionality of this new player for 1/3 the cost.

Just because it's made by Technincs doesn't make it better...
Dzokayi
I am certain that this is the price that early adopters are willing to pay for them right now. By the time they are readily availabe through the normal channels, I bet the price will be in line with current offerings. Relax a bit, don't make me say 'I told you so' :D
