Finally I saved up enough money to buy a new pair of Cartridges, the ones I like are the Stanton 890FS (890SA/RM) Combo Cartridge Pak, But I want to know first what do u guys think about them,
Are they good ?
does anyone use them ?
do they work on NUMARK TTs?
Pretty much tell me what you think about them, I only play Trance and Techno,and I don't scratch at all.

Well we haven't sold many of those sets at all. Most customers just spend a bit more and get Shure White Labels or Ortofons Pro DJ S in either Concordes or OM.

| ortofon concordes here personally....(nightclub S to be specific...)but then, i look at it from a professional perspective and dont use them at home- i have my stanton 500s for that |

| Nightclubs are indeed very decent. But, the whitelabels from shure are even better. |

Shure White Labels:
Shure M44-7's which btw are(on paper) better, go figure! These are what I have! Best needles in the business, hands down, ortofon!

As Evan put it in a straight forward statment, I absolutely agree, I sold my pair of Ortofon Concordes Pro DJ S(Blues) two days after demoing them for my boss. PM me and I'll get you a fellow TA boardmember special discount.

Shure always make good stuff.
I would however keep well away from the M44-7 carts as they are designed with Hip Hop DJs in mind. Because of the angular mounting (Supposedly optional, but you have to do it to stop them from skipping all over the place) they will wear your records a lot more than regular carts, they do however have awesome tracking once angled.
The Whitelabels are slick, have real good sound and are easy going on your vinyl. If you can afford these then go for it. (For some reason they remind me of something the dentist will stick in your mouth, weird huh?)
Don't be put of by some remarks made about the Ortofon carts though, I see the Nightclubs and even DJ S carts all the time. They are actually very good and are by no means a bad buy. The Ortofon Nightclub E gives the same frequency range as the whitelabels and costs a little less. I have the DJ S at home and it works just fine in both tracking and sound quality (These do the job just fine and you may even get a little left over to get some more tunes with ;) )
I don't know very much about the Stanton 890 series but they don't seem a whole lot different from the 500 Mk2 in appearance. I'm sure the main difference is the sound quality by 2000 hz or so which you would get from the Whitelabels and Ortofons anyway. In my opinion (and that's all it is) I think you will get a little more for your money with the Shure or the Ortofon than you will from the Stanton at that price range.

I know the M44-7's are designed for scratch/Hip-Hop purposes. But wouldn't you think that if they were, they wouldn't wear your records out? That to me doesn't make sense. I think it would be smart to buy needles for scratching, because they prevent wear. And as the Shure website says:
Skip Resistance: ultra high
Output: ultra high
Record Wwear: ultra low
Sound Emphasis: big bass
Just my thoughts, they are the best money can buy right now! Thats just the truth plain and simple!;) |
