Honestly I think a lot people could care less about this signing. Typical Leafs signing. They always sign a vetrean and say this is the guy that is going to help them win the cup. Never going to happen until they get another star player or trade Mats for another star player not that Mats is a star player. GO CANUCKS GO!!!!!

Hate to burst your bubble but that's not true at all.

Building a team doesn't happen with just signing "a" star player.
Take a look at Washington...

And trading Mats?? Are you on drugs????
Mats is the most consistant player in the NHL when it comes to his total end of season points...check his last 5 years...

Like Trancegeek said, I'd take Nieuwendyk over Hoglund any day...
:toothless

[edit] Oh yea...let's not forget that Nieuwendyk and Roberts were linemates when they were with Calgary so this could be good!

i have to agree with fire....true the blue line is pretty crap. But the leafs now have some solid forwards....sundin, mogilny, nolan, roberts and antropov! hopefully quinn will find some good combinations and things will click!

oh I love stirring up when it comes to hockey.

I think the leafs need new key younger players, rather than picking up so many veterans.

Oh yea I forgot about that, k now I remember why I forgot about it. Its because they won the cup in 1989. Maybe they should bring back Lanny Mcdonald out of retirement too, hey while were at it why not bring back Borje Salming too since we are in dire need of some defensive help. All of these old farts are useless, you know they are going to miss half of the season anyways because its inevitable that their brittle bones will wind up getting injured.

Old does not mean washed up...sheesh...

Leetch? Roy? Mario Lemieux? Shanahan? Modano? MacInnis?

Need I say more?

Hey I know!
Let's a have a real young team and rank right up there with the Florida Panthers or not wait.....the Columbus Blue Jackets...

bell and coliacovo are great young defensive prospects. they just wont be any help until after the offensive nucleus retires
