Young does not equal good...
There are quite a few veterans, I'd agree, but Toronto does have a lot of good talent on the farm team.
Problem with young talent is that it takes a few years to learn the team's system and the other players.
Problem with old guys is that they're....well....old...but experienced and I'll take that...

| That defence has more holes than swiss cheese...my gosh...you lose wesley....svehla retires....mccabe gets injured....marchment is a dirty mofo....not the greatest defenceman....the leafs showed it last year...the defence is full of holes. |

Picking up skilled blue chip veterans with low salary 1-2 year contracts is the best route right now, like Colorado did, and Detroit does consistently.
If you want the cup, this is the year, since next year will most likely be a lockout.
There isn't in the free agent pool for defensemen. The leafs aer constantly competitive, and are in a weak conference, so when the weaker teams start to drop and sell off some good talent cheap, look for teams to fill the gaps that way. |

there may not be many defense left now. but there were and they should have gone after them |
