Motherboard problem: Asus A7v8x

my brother bought a new mb/cpu/ram daddadad..w/e

and when it boots, it says theres a problem with the ram frequency, so i had to put the cpu (AMD 2.6) to 1.5 and it works, a bit..

but when i installed xp on it, it crashed, and windows doens't boot properly (no start menu and doesn't do much but has that green valley wallpaper)

so instead of me spending hours trying to figure out why, i'm asking for anyones ideas, i just tell him to go get it fixed at a store because i'm very unmotivated to fix it for him, because my computer works fine, so i dont give a damn about his :D

suggestions?

I have exact same botherboard (A7N8X Deluxe 2.0), it is a very picky motherboard (especially memory), you have to make sure you have a compatible memory or the mb wont work correctly or work at all.
But give me ALL your specs EVERYHING and I'll see if I can help ya.

yeah find out what the ram speed is exactly. Sometimes they can only handle a certain speed. I had too quick of ram in mine and it would work fine sometimes but invariably mess up.

but if he bought it as a combo take it back and have them check it out.

Neverthelsss, Asus A7N8X Deluxe is the best motherboard on the market right now.
I LOVE my Asus, its great, its fast, its troublefree (if you know how to work with it).

yeah, me neither. :D oh well. stupid brother. he just bought the cheapest ram because he bought expensive mb/cpu. :D

I would suggest taking that "ram" and shoving it up his ass, maybe it will work there :stongue:
But seriously, go return it and get something top of the line, you get what you pay for bro

I doubt the brand makes any difference... I don't know the details of this mobo myself, but according to ThaDevil it requires PC3200 speed memory, and you've got PC2700. There's your problem.

1st of all Where did you see me say REQUIRE ???? please show me I would like to see it  (dont put words in my mouth).
2nd of all, brand name makes a HUGE diffrence (but obvisouly you dont know that)
3rd this MB takes it all from 2700 to 3500 (its all about the brand name tho)
4th I know for a fact that this MB takes; Corsair, Crucial, Samsung, Micron, Kingmax & Kingston.
