When I'm sober I mostly concentrate on the melody.

If I smoke weed and listen to Trance I concentrate on the elements that I don't usually hear or notice.. And there are usually plenty of those!

That is so true:cool: all those subtle things you don't normally notice...trippy little swooshes and floaty sounding percussion etc...I find this is especially true with Prog.

Yeah I just got some new Sennheisers today, and I'm hearing all this stuff in the music I never noticed on speakers :D, not to mention i finally got a mp3 CD player. I can FINALLY put live sets on CD's :happy2:

I think that getting an mp3 cd player was a turning point in my life. When I think of being in school now I can remember walking around campus or being in the library and whatnot listening to live sets.

I've been thinking that I really love hi-hats. Can't beat a bit of tsst tsst tsst tsst. Or how about a bit of tssk tsst tssk tsst. Or some tsut tsut tsut tsut... :D

Agreed... Yeah when I'm blitzed out, some tracks sound much trippier, and the elements come to my ears more clearly...

lol....

I have to agree on that one

I usually move my head to the bass and leg to the hi-hat
Dj Smitty20
since i love trance, i listen mostly to the synths and strings (melody). i have a special love for organ sounds like in the swimmer - purple cloud and cern - the message...especially around the 3 min. mark with the cern track. I also love smart usage of the piano, like in tiesto's remix of subtle by design.

But any dance track would be nothing without a bassline...PvD and tiesto's basslines are some of the sweetest in trance.

I agree with this statement, but the one thing I always really listen to in a song is the "drop" (i.e. Tasty Mushroom - Infected Mushroom)

there nothing better than killing the beat, and bringing it back 10 times stronger. it's makes my skin tingle!

Another thing I like to do is listen to the song as it builds from the beginning. Listen to how each channel sounds on it's own and then, after the breakdown let's say, listen to how it all sounds together. It's interesting when you pick out harmonies when you do that. Like how the bass line harmonizes with the melody, or how the bass line weaves around the 4/4 kick, or the different modulating synths and how they creat a wall of sound when all put together. It's an analogy to cooking, like adding ingredients together, where each spice or ingredient is independent on it's own but together forms the meal...whoa..that's a bit much. Forgive me it's 4am, doing night shift..:wtf:

I don't really have an element that I like most. It all depends on all the elements working together in a song that gets me going:D
