| Hey, im looking to get a new computer, and I was wondering what I should get. I have been looking at a G5 with the dual 2 ghz. The only problem is that it is very pricey. The other one that I would like is the new AMD 64. Are there any recommendations?? Does anyone have any tests that compare the two against each other? I will use my computer mostly for gaming, internet, movies, and hopefully editing my own movies. Thanx for the help |

| Actually, you should get a G5... I know I would if I had the money... But then if you want to stick with x86, a HT P4 will prolly be a better option than the Operton ... Why? Well, basically, it's a server processor, designed to run server workstations.. There are few 64 bit applications out there, and 32 bit performance is probably just average... So you're better off waiting for the AMD consumer processors that will his the market in a month or two, which will probbly be more adapted to day-to-day tasks... |

| i'm a mac user but i'd say get the PC unless you are going to be using mac only software. I'm a graphics student so its important i have a mac, but they are quite limited, even iff they are far better machines |

| Mac, only get it if you are a multimedia developer. There is a reason Apple isnt as powerful as Microsoft, and its because their product is and nobody wants it. |

I have a pentium and a mac g4.. i always use both... sooo... get BOTH..
nah.. i think it depends on the software and what you are primarily using it for.. for the video editing.. i have some and have friends with MAD MAC software.. you know the expensive stuff used in real movies.. but for what it sounds like your doing... dude build your own or something along that end and get a PC.. doesn't really sound like you need a mac.. so why pay the money... |

All this all comes down to one final statement...
What is the good of a extremely powerful PC if it has any sort of Windows on it (especially XP)?
it's useful for nothing. It will crash and you will get frustrated. Now Mac OS X.....that's a different story. |
