I use to like tranceaddict better but www.homeofmusic.com had more trance and didnt have that much deadlinks. |
I don't know what planet your TranceAddict.com is on, but the one on the planet I'm on doesn't have any dead links.
HOM has a lot of music, yes, but the excessive 'begging' for clicks throughout the site is tiresome - and having the forums located on 'HomeOfMoney.com' makes you wonder... They regularly stripped out all details pertaining to the MP3 group that released a track and instead threw their URL on practically every line of the ID3 tag.. I don't know if they still did it but up until a few months ago that was the case... No respect for that. |

Dude, I totally agree Swamper. I used to go to that site, because that was one of the first ones that I would find some new trance songs from, but it was very annoying how everything was zipped, and then when you would unzip it, it would have a tag with the homepage of HOM. It was very annoying when I tried to organize mp3's (got gbs full of MP3s). I remember a site and will go back based on experience with it. And that one, even though it did have some good tracks, I stopped going. You don't have to mark every MP3 with your site. If people like the site, the word will get around, and if they like it, they will be loyal and continue going to the site.
I disagreed with all those rules, extra text and reminders of clicking here, or better do this if not, "I" (he) will stop uploading. You either want to do it or not. I hate going to a site where the webmasters try to baby-sit you or threaten for everything. |

| I didnt say tranceaddict.com had dead links, what I meant was it homeofmusic had more trance, and it thousands of mp3s that contained no deadlinks. If I compared it to some other site other than tranceaddict....the result would be that a site may have 10 mp3z to d/load but there would be deadlinks, with homeofmusic there's billions of mp3z and without deadlinks....i'm trying to show a statistic here, you get me? |

Simple deductive logic will tell you that if everyone had that attitude that there wouldn't be an on-line music community at all. It's only through the unselfishness of the rippers and webmasters that leechers like you can continue to thrive. None of the people involved in the on-line music community have any responsibility to you whatsoever, so if you don't like the music that people are uploading then by all means leave it. There a plenty of leechers who do appreciate what is provided for them, and these are the people that the community is providing for. I don't want to get into a fight, and I have nothing fundamentally against you, but you're going to have to reassess where it is that you stand.

You could say that. :)

It's not as difficult or dramatic as many of you are making out. When you go into the site, just click on "MUSIC" at the top of the screen (yes, it's in big, bright capital letters) and then select the date you want to download the music from. It's hardly rocket science.

I think to suggest that he 'begs' for clicks is a bit over the top. Currently he doesn't have any real sponsers anyway, and you can hardly blame the guy for expecting a few clicks seeing as he has to pay for much of his on-line storage space (i.e. I'm fairly sure he has to pay for the privilage of uploading the mp3's to where he does). And even if that weren't the case, you have to remember that Rrebel spends 50 hours a week on the site, and all he gets in return for it is a few measly cheques from all advantage and his sponsors, which are usually invested straight back into the site anyway. So I have absolutely no problems with clicking on a few sponsors if by doing that I allow the site to continue existing.

Personally I don't see this as all that big a deal, seeing as the vast majority (i.e. 99%) of tracks that are uploaded have been sent to Rrebel, and much of the time have been ripped, by members of the forum. I fail to see this as a major issue, but at the same time I can understand completely where it is that you're coming from.

It really isn't that hard to rename a file. The majority of mp3's I own have been downloaded from myplay, and I'm sure you all know how badly the files are named when you download them. Much of the time it's impossible to tell what the track actually is! (For instance, G Park - Decedance becomes G.mp3). But I also realise that just because I have to spend 10 seconds renaming the file and the mp3 ID tags that it's no reason to stop using a great musical resource like myplay. The benefits by far outweigh the costs.
Anyway, I don't want to get into any arguments here. I'm just putting forward my points of view, and I understand completely if you disagree with them. :) |

Hmm ... Of course I know how to rename the file. Maybe how you only use it as to play the music, it does not bother you to rename them or leave them. I mix MP3s. I search online everyday and find as many as I can to download. When I have over 1k of mp3s to organize, it is a pain in the ass to unzip them, then to rename them, because the person who is hosting the site could not leave it up to the user to name the mp3 as they want during the initial download. That is why I like it here at TA, there is truly no bull, I get to rename the file to my liking at the intial download. I get it that it would not hurt to ask for the user to click on a link, but its not cool to remind them at every page, different sections of the page. It is just simply annoying.
Another thing too, I am not talking about downloading from crap sources. We are talking about quality websites (supposedly including HOM). A quality website will see that files are properly named; there is no gray area. Only downloading from napster or other download utilities it is that you will get ed up ID3tags. But if you download something from a website, and the person who is hosting the site is spending extra time to review the damn songs, you would at least expect that they get the ID3tag naming correct. There is just no excuses. |

I'm w/ you Xavier...every day when I turn on the computer the first link I click on is HoM. At first I used HoM just to download music Rrebel posted. Then one day I clicked on the forum. That is when I saw what HoM was really about. Sure the music Rrebel posted was great, but the community in the forum was what really got me hooked. There were so many unselfish people who would really go out of their way to help another member out. I even opened a locker w/ over 200 songs to share, just because I wanted to give back to the HoM community. Don't get me wrong this TA forum is really good too, but it doesn't give me a certain feeling of being part of something like HoM did:(. Well I don't want to go on and on about HoM...so I'll leave it at that:p
Oh yeah Renegade please tell Rrebel to enjoy his well deserved break, but let him know we're all waiting for the return of HoM. Maybe he could just put the forum back up for now and just let you moderators keep it running til he's ready to come back. |

Amen...
HOM has a wicked forum...The word unselfish in the quote above should be bolded and underlined...As far as the tracks that are posted, they're not bad. Dj Rebel just posts tunes with a different sound that all... |

Not saying I'm the definitive answer on music at all.
But I do remember www.homeofmusic.com being the first place that I ever really got any good music...
'Course things've changed now. |

Yep, this is what it's all about. I haven't downloaded anything from there for months I don't think, but I keep on coming back just for the forum. I swear, when you add together all the music posted by Rrebel plus all the stuff in the forums, there won't be too many tracks in the world that aren't there. And HoM was the first of a kind in this way, where mp3 collectors would give unconditionally just to help others out. There aren't many places like it even now.
And ant, he's not really taking a break because at the moment he's implementing a few changes and working out servers and stuff, so he's still keeping busy. But hopefully the site will be back up sooner rather than later.
Tango, the forum's off-line with the rest of the site, as that's one of the things getting overhauled. The deep link, if you want it for future reference is http://forums.homeofmusic.com , but at the moment it's got the same message up there as if you try to log in from www.homeofmusic.com .
Anyway, just keeping you all informed. :) |
