Re: Inviting DJs To TA Meetups

I'm gonna post this bit of advice for anyone who thinks they're gonna plan a TA meetup with a DJ:

NEVER post a thread online announcing it!!!!!!!
Our forum is one of the last ones to get meetups with DJ's. Our forum is also much larger (and growing) than other cities. Posting a thread asking who will show up to a meetup w/a DJ (a no-brainer), or announcing a DJ's appearance, will only guarantee an enormous turnout, where the DJ is likely to get mobbed by fans, and not just the ones who replied to the roll call, but all the lurkers as well. DJ's do NOT want to be mobbed. We almost lost Ferry at our meetup because threads were publicly posted. We deleted the threads, and never mentioned he was coming to our revamped 'standard TA meetup'. It is just better to announce a TA pre-meet, and if a DJ shows up, he shows up as a surprize.

Now, I'm not laying claim to organizing any future TA meetups, but if u want to take the initiative to do so, its best to coordinate and communicate with other TA's via PM, and find out if anyone has started the ball rolling with a meetup. Too many cooks ruin the soup. If a DJ's manager gets 8 emails from different people in the same city trying to organize the same meetup, that just adds confusion. Alec (Ottawa) and I organized the meetup with Ferry, and were gonna organize one w/Armin, but since a thread with 60-some replies has already surfaced, we can pretty much write that one off. As of right now, there is no meetup arranged w/ AVB in TO, and I would be surprized if it were salvageable by now. And EVEN IF it were, I wouldn't announce it. I think it would be best in the future to consult w/Swamper, Itikia, or myself to find out if any meetups are in the works or regarding arranging any, cuz we will all be talking to each other about such matters.

I wonder if that's why the rumored meetup with Armin before his set in Ann Arbor this Thursday fell through. :( On the bright side, though, that just gives me an excuse to come up Thanksgiving/Columbus day weekend to party with the TOTAs! :)

Nat speaks the turth !

If you were a DJ ... would you show up at a pre-meet up when the thread is 100pages ?

PPL GOTTA CHILL HERE WHEN IT COMES TO MAJOR THINGS !

It's no big deal when you meet a super star DJ, b/c they are human ... just like us. And they should be treated like humans, not some crazy movie star icon deal.

*I've met nuff superstar Trance & Jungle DJz, but I talk to them as they were a friend*

Honest, it's not the end of the world if you don't meet them and your not elitist if you do ...

I agree with you....in a way. First off, Armin's meet up in Chicago was announced on Trance Addict as well as other numerous sites (AvB.com and chicago sites). This did NOT discourage Armin from still coming out to the "meeting place" and meeting with his fans. He showed up and stayed for a good hour, signing vinyls and taking pics.

I just think Armin is a bit too busy with his 76 tour promoting with the record company that it takes time away from meeting with the fans. When he met with us in Chicago he was not promoting with the record company therefore having "free" time.

Glad this thread got stickied... I know there were a lot of warnings out about this kind of behaviour when people were planning Ferry's meetup, but as usual, people didn't listen...

I hope that a possible DJ meetup is salvageable this time, but in a way, I almost hope it doesn't happen, because then maybe some of you guys will get the kick in the arse you need in order to play it cool next time!

It's the same with DJ meetups, house parties, anything, you've gotta remember that this is a public forum and that all kinds of weirdos could be reading it!

I'm sure Armin has gone to TA meetups that were announced, but the Chicago forum is much smaller than ours. I dunno why the Michigan meetup was cancelled, as I doubt their scene is very large. But I DO know that Ferry's manager was very apprehensive to bring him to a massive meetup, and Armin has the same manager. Regardless, Armin and Ferry have both proved that they are class acts, and give back to their fans. And yes, DJ's are just people too. People are often shocked at the number & stature of the DJ's and musicians I've met, hung out with or befriended over the years, but to me it's no big deal or major feat. I find it surprisingly easy to meet them, and when I do, I really don't put them on a pedastal. Yes, there have been a couple exceptions to that comment there, but I later found out that the ones I made that error with were the ones who turned out to be the biggest jerks of all. No matter what, I treat them as a fellow human bring. If they can't respect me back, I move on.
