okay a little question for all ya producers out there that I'm a bit curious about :)

what other artists and genres do you listen to when you need inspiration? :)

I myself haven't been listening on to much non-trance tha lates year but I've recently started to listen to evanescence (yeah yeah just laugh at me if ya want ;))

I just can't get enough of her voice :) wish I could hire her as a vocalist for my tracks :)

Classical is my all-time favourite genre, so I often listen to that. It doesn't give me any direct ideas usually, but it's a nice change of pace.

If I want ideas for electronic music I'll go clubbing, get messy and dance all night. Usually when I get home I have 4 million ideas for stuff in my head, which are usually forgotten when I wake up feeling hungover the next morning =P

hmm well clubbing seems to work very good for me too :)

of course if anyone has other inspirationsources than music go ahead and write about it :)

Nothing wrong with Evanescence, especially the stuff they don't play on the radio. Very emotional.

dam seems we can all agree on that. I have been listening to her myself and that chicks voice kicks ass man. The song 9 - Hello would be nice for a remix. Nice piano and it even has a nice piano solo to mess with..

DAm is wish i had some software/hardware..

Jazz and soul, such a pure form of sound and vocals :)

I listen to all sorts of music and I try to keep an open mind to everything. However, apart from Jazz I do mostly like to listen to electronic music.
I'm interested in all styles: deep house, tech house, a bit of techno, groovy house and definitely progressive house.
Whenever I haven't got much inspiration, I put on some progressive house by Digweed or Lucien Foort for example and I will be getting idea's in no time!

I also think it's important for producers to look at other styles as well. There is a lot to be learned from music and you can even learn more if you look at other styles.
When producing I'm always interested in making use of all kinds of styles, so that my track won't be 'just' trance or something. You know what I mean, right?

:)

Well, i think it depends a lot more on the mood that the style itself... one time i heard a hammer banging of a construction that was going on next to my house and got some pretty cool ideia for a pattern of a techno song.
I mean, when u less expect u can take ideias from anywhere, like timing for percussion, notes progression (even if just a little part of it) and so....
But i must agree that classical is good to "freshen" the ears from the formulaic composition that Trance got nowdays.
Progressive also gets me some ideias for drives and main rhythm elements of songs, not necessarily progressive ones, but the progressive sound aways hav many elements to their beats, that ends up as ideias

Arvil lavignes album "let go" :) That's the only thing i would listen too outside my usual selection of music including trance, trance, trance, and yep, you guessed it, more trance :D

Yeah...Depends on the mood really. Jimmy Sommerville is really good kicker, and Javetta Steele's song from Bagdad Cafe movie.

And time to time I really need to listen some 60's/70's stuff...

It is really important some times to get out of trance world and listen to some other stuff...That way trance won't lost it charm :)
